was able to take my first bobcat today at around 1:30 pm......moving through the edge of the reprod saw its head sticking out of the brush about 20 yards away....drew down and it ducked back and moved about 10 feet further away and stood looking at me...boom goes the dynamite and 160 grains of nosler partition puts it to sleep. now i'm looking for a taxidermist in the south sound area for a full mount. the one side is good and the far side will have to be covered up as i don't think that even magic will help. does anyone know of a taxi in the south sound who is good with cats? I'm not expecting miracles but someone should be able to pull something off to where only the front side is shown and looks good. i'd really like this to add to my collection and momma is on board with it so i have the green light. any suggestions would help. p.s.===is there anything i can do now to help the process ? i don't know how to skin it properly to not jack it up and it really stinks....

If it will be going to a taxi soon, I think you can freeze the whole thing. They charge a little extra to skin it out if it comes in whole.
-
Get it in a freezer, whole as soon as you can then leave it there till you find a taxi and let him/her deal with skinning. That's how I did my first two, one rug & one full mount and they booth turned out beautiful.
Congrats

:yeah: And don't forget the seal either.
-
Congrats on the bobcat!!! I stuck my bobcat whole as-is in the freezer until I could get the pelt sealed (make sure you warn all unsuspecting family members looking for ice cream! I did not and I paid the price :chuckle: ) Then I took it straight to the taxidermists and let them skin it out.
-
I looked at the book and looks like you get plenty of time for sealing a bob. The ones I've done was on the way to the freezer so it wouldn't have to thaw to put it on.
-
that bobcat has the coolest color and markings i have ever seen.
-
Peters taxidermy in graham is awesome they did my bobcat grouse my buddies life size cougar and they have my wifes bear rug and my muley from this year.
Great looking cat. I havent seen many that cool looking even back when i could hound hunt for them. Thats a cool cat. .
I just put mine in a plastic bag and froze it. Then got it sealed and off to taxidermist from there.
-
I'd talk to Charlie (bucklucky). He's pretty good at the cats.
-
Heres a couple pics of my bobcat from peters.

thanks for the pics......still trying to determine where to take it

Congrats on the bob!

Congrats on the beautiful colored cat That is a dandy and you have until the 5th of April to get it sealed, however it can't be frozen when you take it in to get it sealed
-
did you call him in or what happened

It can be frozen as long as they are able to get the tag on.
You can insert a knife from inside the mouth along the lip line up to the eye. Then put something in the hole to hold it open and they can tag it.

Nice cat  congrats ;)
Big racks taxidermy in La center Wa does awesome work. He might be a little to south.
-
did you call him in or what happened
didn't call it in but am going to try that because since august i've seen 6 different bobcats...was just moving through the edge of the reprod around mid day looking for deer when i saw it about 25 yards away. wanting to take a shotgun when calling cuz all the bob's i've seen have been in real thick stuff so the shots will be close. 7mm mag and 160 grain partitions is a little "overkill" on them
-
Nice cat! Here's one I had Charlie do. In fact I need to call him he has another hide of mine lol.

great looking cat MuleySniper..left a message at his shop yesterday and waiting for a call back
-
That looks great muleysniper
-
Thanks. I like Charlie's work on cats. If the other one he has if mine was bigger I'd have it mounted too. Just having it soft tanned. The next one If it's a good size I'll have him rug it.
-
A taxi told me a while back, if you keep it in the freezer for very long, put it in a paper bag and not plastic. Just food for thought. He did a beautiful job on my fox.
-
I put my two in cardboard boxes, then in the freezer. Easy to stack, and they stored well for the few months before they went to the taxi.
-
thanks for all the feedback/suggestions....do you guys remember what colored eyes the cat had ? this one had really dark green eyes-not golden like the ones i've seen in mounts....suppose when they replicate it they can get different colored eyes? i hope so---they look really cool with its orange coloring

Charlie does some of the nicest work I've seen. His cats are second to none.
-
Cool mount

Great color on that kitty.... congrats.

Congrats.
Dave Jones in Tumwater does great taxi work.
-
that bobcat has the coolest color and markings i have ever seen.
:yeah: pretty and will make a nice mount but not worth much on the fur market. Hopefully the mount turns out good.

I see you paid the taxidermist before the guide. :bdid: :chuckle:
-
If you could shoot it might be at your house ;) you long range hunters always holding high...
-
I love that mount. When I get one big enough it will be similar.
-
I shot at a bobcat last week but I didn't get him.
But now I'm hooked on getting a cat but I have no clue on where to start

Any kind of specific call? Distressed rabbit? Fawn? Cow call?
