I am new to Washington and new to elk hunting and I wanted to know if anyone knows about the hunting in West Klickitat (578) and Ellensburg (334)? How is the hunting in these areas?

great hunting in 334 just post up along I90 and wait for a monster !

Thank you, by the way my name is John from Bonney Lake.

I haven't hunted 578 for elk, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt but I hear it is difficult to find the elk in 578. :twocents:
I think 334 would be better for finding elk. Probably try north of Kittitas in those canyons up there.
In 334 you'd be looking for spike elk (true spike?), and 578 you'd be looking for 3 point min (I believe).......verify in the regs to be sure.
BTW - you realilze 578 would require a westside elk tag and 334 you would need the eastside...

Yes I do. True spike in the east where I'll be going. Next year I was planning a week long trip to 578. Thank you for your help!

A lot of private land and timber land in 578. I assume you are hunting modern, if not the fire hazard closures can limit the available land to the GPNF or private land during archery and sometimes early muzzy. There are patches of DNR land here and there. It can be hard to locate elk, besides the ones on the refuge. There are a bunch of posts on here by others with their opinions of 578. It wouldn't be my first choice, but I live here so I hunt it. 3pt or better.

334 is almost all private and it is also firearm restricted. No rifles, only shotgun or muzzle loader. Unless you have permission on private property I would look elsewhere.

:yeah:
even the ones on the refuge are getting harder to see. best hunting is taken by local land owners.
