After six overnight scouting trips it's finally almost time to put one in the chamber. I saw bulls every time with two being first day shooters. Hopefully pictures to follow in a few days.

Good luck !

Best of luck to you, may the hunting Gods favor/reward your efforts. I too will heading to the shed, been a great summer scouting for me as well. Enjoy your experience, get one leaking!

Sweet tag. good luck on your hunt. Remember to keep positive it is a hard hunt. the average is 3 days for people to hunt before they give up there. Keep hydrated eat well and get rest when you can . I wish you well
-
Good luck!!! I hope you find one worth packing out of there :yike:
Post pics!!

Good luck to the guys in the "shed" !!!
-
Went up to daddyelk's camp tonight. He has seen lots of elk but hasn't got any shots. He saw a big 7x8 get shot and also saw the two cougars in the picture. He said they were making a lot of noise. He heard them before he saw them.
-
You do realize there is no overnight camping in the watershed!
-
I don't see where he said he was camped within the Shed's boundary :dunno: :dunno:
-
:yeah:
He is camped on private ground next to the watershed. If you are drawn for the shed they send you that information about all the rules so anyone drawn will know you can't camp in there.
-
really you cant kill the long tails in the watershed? well thats about jacked up. look at those two long tails just itchn to chew on some elk or deer or an unsuspecting hunter perhaps :yike:. who made those damn rules for the watershed :dunno: :chuckle:
-

I came off the mountain today to take a shower and see the family for a few hours then its back to it. I am still waiting to see a shooter bull in the scope. Hopefully the weather cools down it has been way to hot up there.

Someone killed a big bull!
Is this the bull you're talking about? My dad and I were coming down the ridge to him opening morning when he was shot from 610 yards across the canyon (by Dave of Spokane). We were the first ones on the dead bull and have plenty of pictures but no permission to post them.

They still scored on a pretty nice bull ;)

That was not the bull, sucks to be that close and not get a shot. I hope your dad kills a pig, sounds like there is a few in there this year! Good luck Dave!!

You talking about the 7x8?

Yeah, it was a bummer, but the only thing to do having seen that bull was to give it a shot. I was the first (that we know of) to spot him, three days before season. The guy who eventually killed him was glassing from the same point and so when I said "there's a bull" we both trained our spotting scopes on him. After seeing him we both planning on going after him. A few more people saw him in the coming days but they were always there with Spokane Dave and I, so we immediately outlined our plans for approaching the bull (there were only two reasonable routes into him). One group respected that and went elsewhere on opening morning, the other went in the same way my dad and I did. Fortunately we were there first and when the other hunter came along he was really cool about it and backed off. But just about that time the other guy shot from his rock perch and it became a moot point. This bull ended up being an 8x7.
From there my dad and I worked into the bottom where we got in between a couple bugling bulls and picked off a nice 7-point as he was moving in another bugling bull. It's the biggest bull my dad's ever killed and, unfortunately, it was only 150 yards from the bottom (1700' below the road).
-
Glad to hear your dad got one, that's a hell of a steep pack from the bottom! Nice job,any pics ??
-
Nice work Dave.

Am I wrong, but isn't a 600 yards kind of on the edge of unethical?

Not for those prepared. ;)

I am lucky enough to post a pic w permission from Benchleg, he killed a big beautiful bull. I will let him tell his story and post the size, very well deserved bull! Thanks for letting me post such a sweet bull, congrats!

That's the bull congrats Benchleg you deserve him nice work!!!!!!
-
Sweet. Congrats. My guess is 365

He said he was comfortable to 500 and there was zero wind that day, so I don't think it was much of a stretch for him. We knew going into the morning that he would be on that rock hoping to make the cross-canyon shot - our only hope was that it would be windy or the bull would be on the backside of the ridge. Didn't work out that way so our bet didn't pay off. No biggie - the guy who shot him was a good guy and we ended up getting a great story out of ours (had to get him in the timber midday, which involved a lot of strategy and careful tiptoeing).
Benchleg, nice bull!

if your prepared, no problem. Seen elk get dropped at 800 and 1,000 yards, but you must have the equipment and the knowledge. With my set up, and not a lot of practice- I've killed a small bear at 550. Whuppinstick, congrats on your dads bull!
-
Do we get to see your dads bull?

800-1000 yards a lot of elk get wounded. that is to far. the shooter is hoping for a kill shot but it does not always happen. mike w

well to be honest there are probably more elk wounded at 100 to 200 yrds than 800 to 1000 :twocents: if your set up for it, it is plenty doable, its the guys that arent that just hammer away. a couple of us know a guy that whacked a bull at 980yrds and folded it up, it was amazing. he does it quite often. i know with the right set up i could make the shot. but here on the wetside you really dont shoot more than a couple hundred :chuckle: i cant wait to see more bulls form the watershed.... how long do your guys permit season last for that area
-
The season is over now.
-
Doesn't sound like you are going to see many more bulls. Extremely tough year in the shed, harvest wise.
-
I would like to know how many bulls were killed this year it was a tough year. I feel fortunate to have a good hunt.
-
I only know of 5 where we were, Not sure elsewhere, but it was tough indeed.
-
Yes it was bob. We will talk after the holidays. I know u had the hunt of a lifetime and want to go back tomorrow I do!! Man if I had it again I would???? Have fun!!
-
Those are some amazing bulls! Congrats to all involved. Love the pics and stories. Hope to be involved in something like that some day!
-
I may be moving to another state soon. I'm considering using all my points for a watershed hunt. Sounds like a hunt that should be done at least once in a lifetime.

be in great shape, very steep long hills. Challenging hunt, if your looking to kill just any bull, I would pic a different tag. Unless your into these kind of hunts, very beautiful country.
-
How many points do you have lagnar? I will be your huntin partner i had it this year. :hello:
