The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it away ! -- Thomas Jefferson
:yeah: :yeah:
-
Too bad he never said it
Comments: We currently have no evidence that Thomas Jefferson said or wrote, "The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it" or any of its listed variations.

The problem with Internet quotes is that you can't always depend on their accuracy.

Funny, was just reading a book that mentions a quote by Thomas Jefferson that isn't a quote by him:
"Better to be uneducated than educated by your government"
-
Unfortuntely they have already taken the second amedment away from everyone by limiting what kind of "arm" you may own, placing severe restrictions on where they can be and hiw you can "bear" it, and limiting anyone who has violated one of countles infractions from having arms to begin with. We have already been effectively disarmed. Gun rights is an illusion.

It is sad you can't own an atom bomb if you're schizophrenic.
I also frequently cry that child rapist murderers can't purchase AK-47s.
So unfair...
I'd think awfully carefully before I would endorse 100% unrestricted "arms" access. Awfully.

You really should read the constitution and it's amendments.
-
Really? You *actually* disagree with my sentiments about either of those two above scenarios?
-
"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent."
-Thomas Jefferson
This is a better Thomas Jefferson quote.

No, I didn't say that
I think your comment re atomic weapons is silly.
And a Felon cannot own a firearm.
I think you are being overly dramatic and if you fear an AK47 over any other firearm you watch too much TV.
-
I was overstating to illustrate a point. To me, it's obviously silly to say that you lament *all* arms restrictions, or that you think *all* people should be able to own a gun. That's what the previous poster was implying, which is what I was commenting on. I'm reacting to the extremism (intended or not) more than the general sentiment.

yep and the Revolution never happened
WWW.revolutionneverhappened.com (http://WWW.revolutionneverhappened.com) >:(
rewrite history somewhere else commies! >:(

Didn't Jefferson also say:
“ Every constitution, then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of nineteen years. If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force, and not of right.

This post should not be overlooked. It is a classic in the realms of Hunt Wa, IMHO. I'm still laffin'. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Npaull,....
"Necessity is te plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants, it is the creed of slaves" -William Pitt-
"An armed society, is a polite society" -Robert A Heinlein-
It is the lack of personal responsability that allows dangerous morons to victimize the rest of us. If we were ALL armed, the predators would disapear very fast.
The natural progression of gun laws will have us all living in cages one day for our own "safety".

:dunno:

Pretty sure you took that to the extreme. I'd agree that bad apples should loose there rights, hence felons cant own firearms. Nonetheless he is right that with all the simple infractions and petty laws a LEO can stop you and demand that you cooperate.
Subversively I believe we are loosing our first amendment rights with political correctness. If someone is afraid to speak there mind because of big brother, you no longer have the freedom of speech.
I dont think freedom comes free either. There are many many responsibilities that come along with it, Personal responsibility not governmental responsibility. just my :twocents:
