Hi All,
Just sharing pictures of my 11 year old sons elk. We scouted the taneum unit. We hunted opening morning just south of Easton, saw lots of sign just no elk. We moved down to the Cle Elum area where we had scouted the most and found this 6x6 opening day at 4:00 in the afternoon. First we found a couple of cows and a possible spike. They milled around for about 15 minutes interested in our cow and calf calls. They wandered off so we thought we would call a couple more times with the cow and calf call to see if we could get them to come back. 5 minutes later we heard some crashing brush coming towards us. I told my son most likely it is the cows coming back but to be ready just in case. All of a sudden from out behind some trees about 20 yards away horns appeared above the brush and out stepped a large 6x6 only 18 yards away. My son was ready and put one right in the front shoulder. The elk humped up and then took off running. My son put another shot in just behind the front shoulder. The elk went down about 20 yards later. I never thought my son could shoot standing up free hand so quick. I think I was a way more nervous than he was. We could not believe this bull came in so close. It was an awesome sight. We joked that it was almost self defense.

Nice job! Hopefully my five year old can draw a big bull tag next year since the average hunter only draws every 11 years. I couldnt even take hunters safety till I was twelve in this state.

Awesome! I'm prepping my son for next year now. Also curious on the cartridge/caliber/load. Meet a 11 year old this year that was shooting a 300 win and did well with it, shocked me!!!
-
That's awesome! Way to go!
-
WOW! Great job!!!
-
Thats awesome! Makes dad feel darn good when his son puts down the first nice bull. 7mm-08 is a great youth cartridge. I'm real impressed he was able to have the instinct to throw up and put another in him off hand. Not many youths or heck adults for that matter are able to pull it off. Tell him good job!!
-
He has the taste now. Really nice bull too. Congrats to him for steady under pressure hits. You and he will be chatting this one up for years to come. Can you imagine the school conversations?

That is an awesome bull he has there!! Great shooting and way to go for staying composed and making some tough shot accurately! I remember selling him that rifle and told him he would get a nice bull with it! I also told him he needs to bring some jerky from the big bull he kills with it, lol! Need to bring him by the shop so I can congratulate him in person..and give him another opportunity to tell the story again, would love to hear him relive it! Awesome memory for you both! Dewey

That is my nephew! I am sooooo proud of him. I was in Idaho on my own hunt but kept thinking about him the whole time. I came home a couple days early to go help him but I was too late. What a sick feeling that was. I will always regret that. But he is the best little hunter. Love you Ty!
-
If he shoots a shot gun and hunts ducks he is an instinctive shooter! ;)
-
congrats!!! This year we were talking about how you don't see many younger kids at elk camp its sad more kids are not into hunting Im glad to see a kid out hunting and im sure he is hooked for life. Now if we could get more youngsters in the outdoors instead of playing video games!!
-
That is it. My nephew Tye

This was the post I was referring to in another thread. I do not see the posts I was referring to on here. One of two things has happened. No worries! It's possible the comments were posted on this site and the mods removed them. I checked the deleted items folder and found three messages that had been deleted that referenced the direction of the gun in the photo. However, if two moderators were deleting negative remarks at the same time it's possible the remarks you mentioned were completely removed with no record remaining, that's why I say the comments could have been posted on this site, we can't say for certain. Either way, your story in the other topic illustrates the kind of negativity that we want to avoid on this forum and I thank you for speaking up. Stories like you posted will help us all to understand the impacts of negative remarks and the need to clean it up!
I bet your nephew Tye ended up with a great mount or rack for the wall, congrats to him and your family!
-
Man what a bull! I think I was in my thirties before I killed something like that.
-
Boy that was a long time ago!! :chuckle:
-
Awesome elk, and I'll bet he will never forget that hunt. My first elk was a cow, and I can still vividly recall everything about the hunt.
-
Great bull congrats to you guys.

We couldn't find any. I am almost thankful because I'd have to curb stomp whomever did it. Honestly it doesn't get much better than that.

I missed this first go around, so thanks for posting on it. Congrats to the young man and dad!

Congratulations to your boy!

@deerhuntr4885 make sure your nephew sees that he is still impressing the socks off of us with his bull, and that your family knows how this family really feels.
