Title: Elk genetics in the Cowiche/Rimrock and Bethel areas.
Post by: 334OKH on October 27, 2013, 05:49:39 PM
I have a question about the Elk (Bull) genetics in the areas listed. I shot a 7x7 in 09 that had matching kickers and were 8 inches long each. I have also mounted several from that area with similar features. Does anyone know the total area (GMU's) with these characteristics?  Thanks for any knowledge on the subject.

I think it's a age thing , those kickers are in a bunch of bulls from 340 too but they need to get a few years on them to pop up.

Thanks for the replies. My bull was ancient, past breeding age and was also the best Elk I have ever eaten. Ivories were flush with the gums and the teeth in the jaw were worn to nuthin'. I kept the jaw! It had fantastic mass as well, would love to had seen a picture of him in his prime.

We have always dubbed it the "cowiche crown". It's not just cowiche area specific though obviously. Nice bull!

Hunted in that area my entire life and have never heard of "The Cowiche Crown". I like that. And thank you all for the kind comments.
