I took my dog Remi out Sunday morning on my little 10' Jon boat to try and drop some birds. He just turned one August 31st and this was his first lake duck hunt. He went with me when he was a couple months old, but no retreiving and he's gone with me for some jump shootin' in the past with no luck. First off, I was excited just for him sitting still while we cruised across the lake and not jumping in water after the coots. No birds were flying, but I called in a pile of mallards that swam in from behind me. He held like a pro while I shot. I was pumped to get three birds with three shots, but WAY more excited to watch him retreive them. He retreived all three and was ready for more, but nothing was flying. We called it a day, but he was proud of those birds, and I was definitely proud of him!

German wire haired pointer?? guess i've always seen them used for upland dogs, used to seeing just Labs and Chessies for water retrieve.. but it looks like he's doing good. Congrats..

Great first boat hunt! Sounds like memories you'll have for a lifetime. I can still see as clear as yesterday some of the points/retrieves my first dog made 15 years ago. Making new ones now with my current pup.
WPG: Griffon right? My GF has one that's a retrieving machine at 7 months.

He's a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon out of Skeeter Holler Farms. They are known for being an upland dog, but he loves the water. They are definitely the ATV of hunting dogs, they go anywhere! It`s amazing how natural it comes to them.
