1st year Riffle hunter. I am wondering about gate access? I have hunted archery in the past and the gates were always locked. Does anybody know if you can camp behind the gates? During archery season I have noticed what looks like riffle hunters camps. Can you camp where ever you like on winters mountain? I am mainly talking about the 553 gate. Thank you and good luck too all!!

You can camp on state land but not Weyerhaeuser. Get a DNR public lands map. Then you'll know where you can camp and where you can't.

553 and many other Weyerhaeuser gates will be closed Mon-Fri during modern. Signs started going up last week.

Probably trying to gradually get people used to the idea of no access unless you pay. Margaret and a Toutle might as well be switched over to a general season hunt next year, so Weyerhaeuser can control who hunts instead of the state.

Pretty much all the gates will be open. They do have a few active logging ops which you will have to avoid and another gate that is walk in only during the week. Otherwise I was in there last weekend and everything was open. But no camping unless you find some state land. Honestly stay at kid valley or silver cove. Its not as much fun as rustic camping but it is easier.
