The title of this post is self explanatory. In almost 20 years of relaoding, today is the first time I have done this. Any suggestions? I was loading 25-06 and this particular case went in tough. There is very little of the case sticking out of the bottom of the die.
Thanks

Yep...easy fix. I bought my kit but basically you tap the primer pocket and use a bolt and washers to extract it. Ill try and find a link for you.

No link but check youtube...lots of vids. You need a drill, tap, bolt, and washers.

I thought that only happened to me. My buddy used a lathe on mine.

You can sometimes get them free by freezing the die. The brass will shrink more than the steel die and sometimes just grabbing and a tug gets it out. But if all else fails the case extractor kit will do it.

Thanks h20,
drilling and tapping the primer poket etc worked flawlessly. I appreciate the suggestion.
Thanks to the other folks that responded as well.

There are those reloaders who have had a stuck case, and those who will. A 1/4-20 tap, a #7 drill bit, and some washers and 1/4-20 bolt are handy to have, and basically the same as those $20 extractor kits. Sometimes a socket works as well as the washers... Don't even bother trying to loosen a stuck case with pliers or vise-grips!

The method you describe is what I used to a T

So true!

I've stuck a couple, it's no big deal.

Yeah, once you get it down, it's duck soup. Main thing is, if a case starts going into the die hard--stop! Don't force it! You'll get a stuck case if you keep pushing it! :tung:

Thats one of the things I like about Lee dies. Not a big operation to unstick a case from the FL sizer. Just a 3/16th" punch and a hammer.
What do you guys use to get the thingy out of the case once you have to case out of the die? I use tin-snips and carefully cut the neck off, or use a Dremel and cut the bottom of the case away. Any better ways to do it?

By "thingy" do you mean the expander ball/decapper? That's what's nice about the drill and tap method. After the case is unstuck, you add more washers and pull the expander ball/decapper off the case...

for about 6 bucks you can replace that if you happen to bend it too. Instead of buying a new die. Friend of mine bought me a new 300 mag die cuz he thought he ruined mine when I was out of town. I came home and asked him why there was a new die set in my re-loading room...I fixed the old one and traded for another .308 die.

Yep--I back the expander/decapper out as far as I can, and try not to run the drill bit in too far. So far so good! :chuckle:
