Title: Winston backup
Post by: gonehuntin68 on November 03, 2013, 10:02:55 AM
Who else was stuck in the Winston unit opening morning back up? If you were not, a guy slid his nice Ford off a steep hillside, and had to winch and chain it to trees across the road to keep from possible losing it.

That must have messed up a lot of people's hunting plans for the first morning. Any pictures?

Just heard the story from my buddy, he was one of the trucks that was hooked up trying to pull it up.

I was out there somewhere.........don't ask me where. Glad I missed that traffic mess. I didn't get out there until almost 10am. My Dad had some medical problems attempting to camp overnight in back of his truck and had to go home. He knew the area. I just drove around a few roads, got out and hunted the edges of 2 clear cuts. Then the wind started, the hail came, had tree crash down behind me, drove over two small ones to get out and decided to go home.
That was my first time in that area. It must be pretty good because I saw TONS of hunters.
Maybe next year.......hmmmm :dunno:

Yeah we were two trucks behind him. Felt bad for the guy but laughed at all the people who decided to walk past the back up to get in and then they let everyone through and we all passed them  :chuckle:

No but we did follow a guy in opening morn who was towing a jeep in there, we were unsure why exactly. He was driving very slow

We were the first shot opening morning, 7:50am with a 4pt in the area we were at. It was my first time in the area, couldn't believe how many trucks there are!
