If you want to stay on the west side of the state and close to home try Greys Harbor County.  Look for alder flats, river banks, creek bottoms, and clear cuts. Young fir groves are good cover too.

East side try Chelan, Okanogan, and Stevens counties. Blues range higher, 4000-7000 feet elevation, following the berry ripening as they go. Ruffs will be lower 3000 feet and below.
Look for berries, blue/elder/huckle... Don't pass up birch cover with soggy ground...

Look for birds on the logging roads and then follow them into their coverts...

Roper knows his birds...listen to him..., I would also add for Eastern WA birds, I look for 3-6000foot ridges for early am dusting activity. I spy the ridges as the morning warms from afar, can spot the grouse, and stalk them later in the morning...this is a very fun activity, last year my son (11 year old now...) and I stalked about ten. They would jump from the gound and coast away as we approached. My son kept saying "comeon' dad, shoot", he was right, I kept waiting for the best shot till they were mostly gone. Finally nailed the last one... Really fun though...

Get out and walk gated off logging roads near berries, alder and water and you will see birds.

Afternoon everyone.  I sure would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction for a little grouse hunting around Spokane for this weekend.  I would love to get my dog out for a run in the brush and maybe a chance at a few birds.  New to the area, and just lookin' for some public lands to try out.  BTW, Roper, awesome picture in the other post...Thanks in advance!!
