I killed this bull today just before 1pm after dogging a herd through the brush for half a mile. Finally the bull cleaded in the brush from the herd for a 160-180 head shot. Got him... second elk I have killed within 100 yds of here.

Congrats! Did you say hoof rot on that guy??? If so take pictures and contact WFG. They need to know where it is spreading too.
Way to go!

Wow talk about a barely legal bull, good eye and nice shooting
-
Congrats!!
What kinda of shape was he in overall, how bad was the rot, fat reserves?
-
WTG! Nice looking Bull!

Congrats on your bull!
-
Nice work and congrats! Hoping I can get my first one in that unit.

Thanks guys!
Very known area for hoof rot. The other I killed there had it too. I didn't notice he had it till I walked up on him. That hind quarter is just a bit smaller. Fat reserves look just like the two other bulls we killed but they didn't have rot.

I gove it my all and try to get it done! Filled every elk tag I've had since 2007. (May eat idaho tag thisyear) >:( but I do what I can...
The meat doesn't taste any different on elk with rot... still just as tasty!

fish and game gave my buddy another tag for his the thing stunk

I think sometimes the animal is so sick an infection is present and could taint the meat. Most seem to be fine. :dunno:

They guy was missing most of his teeth. He actually only had one in the front. I kep picturing him knawning on the steak with that thing... :chuckle:

So no picture of the hoof rot?
Never took a pic. One rear hoof was basically gone up to the hair.
