Title: Observatory A big bull
Post by: TeacherMan on November 03, 2008, 02:46:18 PM
Well, I guess I'm not going to go into much detail, I had way to high of expectations. I didn't go over to the unit until the second week hoping for colder weather, bad call on my part. It snowed I guess around Tuesday. I shot a nice bear on Saturday, and seen a total of 1 elk in four days, a cow so I went home Tuesday Night. I could have stayed the entire time but it cost me about $200 dollars a day and I could not justify staying when I wasn't seeing any animals. I put in 10 to 15 miles a day, most in the dark. I sat and glassed for hours. The first two days I didn't even get to see what the area to the spot we hunted looked like in the daylight. On Wednesday my buddies shot a cow and then they got a 1x2 on Friday. They also saw a nice bull Wednesday. Figures, my luck. Don't want to sound negative but I honestly think this will be the last time I rifle hunt in Washington. I had a guy shooting across the canyon toward me at something I couldn't see. He had to of been shooting close to a mile. I could see the muzzle blast then count a couple seconds before I could hear it. He shot 5 times, then left. He never came across the canyon to look at what he was shooting at. I know this because there was one way in and one way out of this canyon unless you came up from the bottom over 10 miles one way. Over 5 coming from the top. Well I guess I'm just rambling, overall really disappointed in the lack of animals.  :'(

That stinks, but you will run into idiots everywhere that will do exactly what you described,I am lost in why it would cost you $200 a day to hunt? i could drive to Seattle and back to spokane everyday in a gas guzzler for that price.
