The ruts on in south eastern Oregon, so I thought you might like to see a few pictures of what we have going on down here. I haven't been on the site here for awhile but as soon as the rut slows down, I'll try to post some more pictures. Here's a few of the bucks we have been seeing. There are different bucks showing up or passing through every day. Hope you enjoy.

This is the same buck from last year, he has always had an injury on that side. I'm not sure but in 2012, it looks like an injury caused him not to use that leg much or something maybe causing his hoof to grow so long, I'm not sure if that is the reason or not. I'm heading back down in the morning to take more pictures won't be back for a week or so to most more pictures. Hoping to get that picture of that one monster buck.

Some great bucks!!!

Shot a buck like the one with the bad knee in 2011. Bullet is what caused my bucks grapefruit sized knee. He definitely wasn't doing so well though. Could barely hobble around.

Just got back from photographing bucks, slipped on a little further south to photograph some wild horses. I'll slip in a few of them to break up the monotony. Saw the black doe again today, I'll post a picture of her too. Brute, hurry up and get down here, the ruts heating up, big buck by the cottonwood. 6X7

Great pic's.
I think its called melanistic? I saw a black fawn pronghorn a bunch of years ago in Wyoming. Someone told me its more rare than an albino. Found a melanistic garter snake with my daughter a couple years ago too. Awesome looking doe!
-
Interesting how the coloring makes it kinda look like a totally different animal :dunno:

i think its actually called hyper melanistic, or hypo melanistic, one of the two

The ruts pretty much winding down, besides we're going to meet our son and granddaughter in southern Oregon for a late season bow hunt this weekend. Here's a few more of the pictures I took during the November rut around Frenchglenn Or. That was a good picture of the black doe Brute. When I get back from southern Oregon, I'll post up some more pictures and maybe find some more of the black doe. Thanks for all the comments.

Below is a picture of a 5X6, he busted off a fork on the 6 point side in late October 2010. I took lots of pictures of him in November and December and then found the 5 point side in January of 2011. The 5 point side measured 97 6/8. Although the broke 6 point side was found 2 days later, I'm sorry to say, it lives at another house. >:(

Good stuff Brute it has been a slow year for the big boys :)
-
As often as I find myself looking back through these photos, I'm surprised my keyboard hasn't shorted out due to all the drool I get on it. If you don't mind sharing, what camera & lens are you using? Great deer, stunning photos!
-
Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing!
-
Thanks for all the kind comments on my pics. I use a Nikon D300, a lot of my pictures were taken with a 70-200VR and this year I got a 200-400VRII. For the most part for what I do the 70-200 is my go to lens but when I need a little more reach the 200-400 reaches out a little better. Brute, we missed you this year during the mule deer rut. We'll have to get together to shoot Rosies in July. Meanwhile, post up some of your good buck shots from previous years.
I only saw this buck one time for about 5 minutes and only got this one shot and then one of him going away.

Last year, I took my sheds off of the drop tine buck to a taxidermy friend of mine, Christiansons taxidermy in Tillamook Oregon, to mount and I should get it back sometime around Christmas. I'll post pictures of it when I get it back.

Here's a few fresh ones. Not a great year, no snow and too many days with high temps in the 60"s.

Hey, Ricochet, good to see ya over here. It was fun shooting bucks with you this year. This was one of the strangest years in quite awhile with the lack of coyotes and raptors and warm temperatures, the rut seemed real slow this year. Anyway, post up some more of your buck pictures, you got some good stuff. I got a buck crossing the river in that spot too but my buck was a little smaller. I'll try to find a picture of it.

These are terrible pictures of a good buck. I only saw him one time and these are pictures of him a long ways off and cropped really heavy. I got about 10 images before he disappeared into the cattails never to be seen again by me.

Thanks for the kind words about my pictures. I use Nikon gear, a D300 with a 70-200vr and a 200-400vrII lens. I shoot with several guys from Oregon including Ricochet and Brute. We meet up every November to take pictures of bucks.

Wow! You just stole my lunch break. Don't know how I am going to get any work done now...Thanks for sharing.

Sorry about your lunch break. I've shared this video in the past, my son took this video and has 4 years of video of this buck. Even though he bow hunts for this buck, he's never been able to get a shot at it, could have killed this buck 100 time before season but to the best of my knowledge this buck has never been killed. I'll look for some newer videos.
Copy the link below and take out the spaces between net /jason/ in this link or the video just plays over and over on this website. Sorry for any inconvenience but I didn't want it to continue running and slowing down the page.

This is a buck that my son has been watching for 3 years now. He's gotten video of it in 2009 & 2010. He's got trail cam pics of him this year already. I'll post up some videos if we get some this year. This buck always seems to dissapear the day before bow season opens. We call him the heart attack buck.
