Title: Washington Predator Hunting Association Coyote Classic III
Post by: btlsoom on November 07, 2013, 05:19:14 PM
Well, we have received our approval for our Classic for 2014. The contest will be from January 17 to January 19th and will be based out of Pasco (Tri-cities) again.  Pretty much the same as last year but we have restructured the prizes to try to get a broader number of winners.  Side pots like last year, raffle prizes like last year, lots of fun like last year.

Contest covers 7 counties this year to allow a larger hunting area, thinking of a BBQ following (not sure yet), raffle prizes from FoxPro (E-Caller), Edge by Expedite (decoys), Alpen, Burris, Buck, Mathews, WhoJobee and I am sure more will come.

Should be a great time.  I will be posting the flier, rules and all other info as we get it ready.

Those of you who went last year remember how good this event was.  Hope to see you again this year.

One of these years....I'd like to enter a derby.  I just hear so many horror stories that it keeps me clear of em.  I prefer the "just for fun" types.

You should enter Gringo. This is our third year and after the first two we have never received a complaint of any cheating or fishy stuff. We feel we put forth the effort to make sure its all on the up and up. Plus you get to run into some of the guys from the forum. It really is a good time.

Those of you that want the info, we just finished putting it together.  Send me a PM with your E-Mail and I will forward to you a flier, rules and entry form.  As Jarrod said, this is our third year and it gets better every year.  We do take a lot of time to make it as fool proof as possible and have done very well so far.  We follow WDFW rules very close.

Besides payouts for top performers, we have side 5 side pots and raffle prizes from FoxPro, Edge by Expedite, Buck, Alpen, Burris and others.....

Looking to be a another GREAT classic....

Hope to see you all there . . .

The first year you put this hunt on,  at sign up you had some crosshair WSPHA stickers. What's a guy gotta do to get another one or two? If you had them at sign up for the members to buy I'm sure they would go faster than educated yote!

You can do what ever you want with them.  Last year most went to local furriers.  If you want yours, keep them.  All we ask is that they are properly disposed of or taken care of.

Thanks for your interest.

Indeed it was :chuckle:

One thing that you guys might do is give out numbers to people when they show up. So the guys who get there early are first in line for blocks. Just a idea but keeps people from showing up right at startup time and then pushing to be in front of the line when others have been there for hrs.

We will do what we can. It's first come first serve after 5:30. It's hard to break away from work to help guys that are early. We will do our best to help everyone in a timely manner. I appreciate the guys that are putting in the miles for the classic an understand you guys need to get to your ground ASAP. Thanks for all your interest. It's going to be awesome once again.

100% understand bud no worries. I was thinking that if you just had like a clip board and had guys that showed up early sign in then at 5:30, the first people on the list would get to be first in line.

Say you show up at 4:00pm and you sign in at the number 1 spot. Then I show up at 5:15 and get the number 2 spot. When 5:30 rolls around and the handing out blocks starts. Number 1 gets to go first then number 2. It sounds like it will be good sized this year and it may help with getting blocks handed out.

Just bouncing ideas.

Since I'm so new to this, I was wondering if anyone had a packing list they they could share so that I can be prepared. Also, do ppl just sleep in their rigs or tents or what. I know I'm a rookie but I really don't understand how this is suppose to go. I understand the rules I think, it's everything else that I'm curious about. I figured as long as I brought everything I would need, the rest would work itself out. Thanks.

It is a day & night hunt, of you want to stay up all night & sleep days its up to you, or sleep night & hunt days. Heck no sleep for two days & two nights the way the young bucks do it! My wifes to cute for me not to crawl in bed at some point during the night..... Well that and I'm to dam old for all nighters! Lol But from start to stop you can hunt all hours. Hopes this helps you out.

There's a Motel 6 right across the road.  Last year you just had to tell them you are with the predator hunters, and they gave a discount.  That's where I stayed.  At my age, sleeping in a tent is not very inviting any more.  :chuckle: If you already hunt coyotes, you will know what else to bring.....

Yea, I stayed in that Motel 6 last year.  Not good for much but a quick nap and shower.  Pretty low key, not many bugs, but doable.  I am bringing the pretty lady also so we are upgrading a little this year.

That's about all I had time for anyway!  Wouldn't pay to go to a fancier place....  :chuckle:

Good to see you there Raul.. drive faster next time. :chuckle:

Indications say that this is going to be a pretty big event.  I am still sending info out to new folks every night.  I am asking everyone to PLEASE respect the operations of the RDO facility.  They are doing regular business that day and are courteous enough to allow us to use their facility.  Please do not bother them until we are set up for registration which we will get set up as soon as we can.  I am driving from the west side and should arrive about 5ish.  Others will be there about the same time so we will have several lines for registration which starts at 5:30.  If you think you will be late for registration (ends at 8:00pm) make sure you contact one of us prior to the completion of registration time.

We can send you registration forms prior to time via an attachment so they can be completed prior to your arrival.  If you do, please make sure they are legible.  You will also be able to choose side pots, calculate total fees etc. which would speed up the process.  Make sure you have your wild ID (license) with you as we will be recording them on your registration form.  We will have to physically see it.

As many of you know, this is a smooth run event, we have taken every possible avenue to make it an even match for all, and also have many top notch raffle prizes to boot.

I will be making an E-mail notification list off this years registrations for notification for future event. If you do not want to be on it, please let us know at time of registration.

If anyone has any questions, please ask jayrod9528 or myself and we will get you an answer as soon as we can.  Also, if you have any suggestions on how we can improve future events, are ears are open.

Thanks to all of you for your interest..... and i will see you there.  That means you too Heredoggydoggy

I know I'm not randy, but yes you can. Only one person is required to be at the sign up, but you must have the other persons info wild id and such.

It looks like we have secured a fur buyer for the event so if you shoot some nice dogs you should be able to get a couple bucks for them. I have to say the fur has not looked all that nice this year, but hey a dollar is a dollar. By the way just so we are clear the coyotes you shoot are your property to dispose of after the hunt. If you choose to skin them your self, sell them to the fur buyer, or do what you will we just ask that you dispose of them in a proper manner. Thanks guys. It looks like this event is really shaping up.

When he signs up he will be a member. There is technically not an entry fee. What he is paying for is his membership to the wpha.

In the State of Washington, you are not allowed to have an entry fee associated with a hunting contest.  Hence, we are having a membership drive.  With your membership, you are allowed to participate in the WPHA Classic.   :IBCOOL:

First place 10
Second place 9
Third place 3
Not sure of the total somewhere around 30.  Lots of ones and twos lots of teams did not check in. Good hunt fog was defiantly a challenge this year.

It was horrible this year for us. We saw 1 coyote in 24 hrs and only really got to hunt for about 3 hrs. The fog was so thick in the areas we were hunting.

Congrats to the guy who were able to put some down.

For sure on the fog. We got lucky for a few holes in the fog to get three, but we were completely shut down for night hunting. All in all that why it's hunting and not shooting. Thanks to all the teams that came out! You all are the reason we keep this thing going! Hope to have better weather next year. Thanks again.

Indeed for sure. We killed everyone of our yotes last year at night so we were doomed :chuckle:

What teams did 1st and 2nd, same as last year?

No the second place team from last year took first, but a team from the Prosser area took second.

My partner Crapped out on me Saturday afternoon around four said he was beat too tired to go on and the fog was making it easier for him to give up. It is hard to find a good partner one set up it was his area I was not familiar with we had coyotes come in seems like it was a hundred yards Away.....thick brush, trees and river between us and them had no chance of shot must've been at least three or four dogs one other stand we had at least two within 300 yards fog bank Rolled in and would not pass could not see anything fog definitely limited hunting. Had one run across the road right in front of us.....never got off a shot...I will definitely make some changes for next year

Thank you to every one that took the time and effort to participate in this years Classic III.  We fought fog, cold, drizzle and what have ya but did manage to still have a good time.  Next year will be even bigger and better, it is already in the works.

Jarrod has pretty much posted the results, but the total dogs taken was 31, down from the 51 from last year, but thank mother nature for that.  With the raffle, I think every one left with some thing.  Raul Duke took another FoxPro home.

I am starting a designated E-Mail list for future Washington PHA events and Classics so if you want to be on it, send me a message and I will get you listed.

I will also be sending out membership info to all of those that I can read theie E-Mail address on the registration form so if you do not get a message from me soon, please send me one and I will get you the membership info.

Items cooking:  We are looking at holding an EGG SHOOT on the East side.  We are looking at securing a range first than we will put the event together.  It is a fun family event that all can participate in.  We will be looking at a pre-registration process to see how many folks are interested.

If you attended the Classic this year, and have suggestions on how to improve next year, as I said, we are always open to suggestions.  How to put the pay pots out, raffle items, teams, what have ya... let us know.

AGAIN.... THANK YOU ALL FOR PARTICIPATING, SUPPORTING THE WASHINGTON PHA, AND HAVING A GOOD TIME...

see ya next year ! ! ! !

Ugh! the fog, many time we couldn't see 30yrds,  The second day my partner didn't even bother with a rifle and just carried the shotgun.  We saw a few but were out of position for a shot.  I've never hunted the area and my partner only once before.  I was completely out of my element in the big open fields, I'm a heavy sage, forest and desert brush kind of hunter and had to rely on Rick for help in stand selection.   Beaarmanric and I got together at the last minute and it turned out to be a good thing for me, he is one of the nicest guys I've hunted with.

Thank you Randy and Jayrod and everyone else that put time into this for a great hunt.  I know the work involved with putting on a function and the work you guys put into it is much appreciated.  Looking forward to it again next year, hope you keep the same time frame so it doesn't interfere with the PM Hunt.
