Title: McNary Fee hunt area blinds
Post by: Patarero on November 09, 2013, 03:27:16 PM
I have never hunted the McNary fee area.  Just curious are the "blinds" actually blinds, as in 4 walls and a roof, or are they simply stakes?

They have a seat and pipe frame. Some of the blinds have reeds as camo others are out in the open.
ALL are in water well away from shore.
TIP. Don't drop anything in the blind. There is at least a foot of water under the seat.
Many hunters don't use the blind, but hide in the reeds.
There is a post and you can hunt within 100 foot radius of the post.
The McNary website has an excel spreadsheet showing the best blinds.
Blind 6 is always the first to be chosen.
Although there are 25 reservations per day, only a handful actually show up.
I have seen times when the 25th reservation got the 2nd pick.

Blind 6 has a roof or had one the last time I used it.
The reason for the roof is that the birds approach from the rear and swing around to land.

$14 a head and office opens up at 1 and a half before shooting time.  If you end up towards the last pick with lots of parties ahead of you, you will be at your blind or post about 15 minutes before shooting time.  Some guys take forever to talk over with each other when it's their turn.

Personally, I like to get to the blind just before shooting light. I went out last weekend and arrived at a pond over near Moses Lake just before shooting time. I like to look over the area in daylight to see where I want to set up.
If I put the decoys out in the dark, I have to go out and relocate them.
