What's a good caliber for them pesky yippe dogs
-
My M4 in 223/5.56 works wonders :chuckle:
-
204,22-250,223 if you want to save fur, have taken them at less than 50 yards with a 22lr. If your not worried about fur, use what ever your comfortable with  Also close ranges 12ga works great

.243 I dont care about fur..........I care about fawns.

What is your end goal for hunting them? Are you looking for a nice rug or mount? Possibly selling some furs to make up a little gas money maybe?
That will influence what caliber/bullet you choose to use.
Yotes are small and fast, so something you shoot well is a priority, since you will want to hit what you are shooting at.
Any of the above calibers mentioned will work, just the end results will vary.
I have a .22-250 & .22 Mag, but will take a poke at one with whatever I have at the time. I have taken them with .22 Long rifles up to a .300 Win Mag...that was not pretty!

22-250 or .243 would be my choice..
But I will pop them with my .270 as well. :chuckle:

i have been shooting the 222rem at closer range keeps the fur nice or for a little longer range (to 600 or so) 22-250 ai if further either get closer or make the best shot i can
-
I've used my 06 with ball ammo and it wasn't too hard on the fur. I say use your normal hunting rifle if you just want to kill them, good practice.
-
Need something small and quiet to get the suburn yippe dogs out that are packing up and taking dogs and even an alpaca lately
-
Are you in an area that is restricted or just not safe to shoot a firearm?
If not, my .22 Mag will whack a yote with reasonable authority and is fairly quiet...all things considered.
-
Mine is currently set-up for "working" the night shift once the modern deer & elk seasons end...

 Thanks!

Ccortez if your in the snohomish/marysville area, legally you will not be able to use a rifle for the yotes, you will have to use a shotgun & get them in close! Pg 81 in the big game regs.

Me an the old lady practiced up the other night because of the very same thing your talking about, packing up and getting way to close to the house. She's worried about the cats,I've got a kennell full of dogs that let us know when something is amiss. The other night a kai kai was 20 yards from our back door, the old lady was smoking on the back porch when the thing let out its howl in the back yard.So I set up a target at 55 paces in the field, made sure the .22 BLR was on target and then we waited for dark and whipped out the red eye,she shined and I shot............we are good to go,BRING IT!
I have a .204,.223 and a .243 also,but those are for eastside shooting.

The 20's with a 32 grain V-Max is good medicine for hide hunters. Small entry hole, and no exit hole, but the insides look like they were worked over with a chainsaw. In rural areas where noise is a factor, I hear the .25 caliber air rifles are ideal for coyotes. Just make sure it has a shrouded barrel, or it will be as loud as a .22 LR!

Had the same problem when I lived in kitsap/ hood canel. Wake us up at night. .22 calibries. Shot out of my rem. nylon. Dead dog. Head shot. Be safe, they won't cycle a long rifle or a ruger standard. Almost as quiet as a silenced gun. Less noise than a gamo .22

 CCI makes CB Shorts and CB Longs that are sub-sonic and quiet, too. You can hear the firing pin hit, and all you hear is a "snap!" I shoot them right out the front window, and the neighbors don't hear a thing. Head shots on large critters are a must, or they'll run off....

As much as I am a ar-10/ar-15 buff. I still love a 22-250.
