It really sucks to come on here and talk about unsuccessful hunts, but I hate it when guys dont update their hunts. So my buddy and me went over for the first seven days of the season. It was some of the toughest hunting I have ever been a part of. Those elk only need to move about fifty yards before they are out of your life forever. We jumped a great bull on tuesday but i couldnt get a shot. Even though i jumped him twice at about fifty yards. The country is just so thick. Then on friday we went in behind a gate and sat for a little while. Another hunter came in behind us so we hurried ahead. Having never been there we didnt want him to get to the "good spot." Well i jumped off of a stump that i had been glassing a drainage from and rushed ahead. About five minutes later we heard a gunshot, then there were three more soon followed. I just couldnt believe my ears. I ran back to see what he had shot or shot at. Well to my surprise he was standing just at the stump where i had been glassing from. He shot a giant 6X6 and to make it worse they basically had to park at our camp to pack it out because that was closest spot. Could not believe it. Well what are you going to do, i guess thats hunting. Would love to hear how everybody else did. I had other run ins with elk, but by far those were the two closest stories to pulling the trigger. Oh yeah, not to mention every time my buddy would drop me off somewhere it seemed he would see a small bull as he drove to pick me up somewhere else.

This is the bull as they got it to our camp. At least they were a nice family. Ranger at feeding station said they had never seen it and figured it was nine to ten years old

Good looking bull with cool sweeping front tines. Sucks it did not turn out for you guys but that unit is a tuff hunt.

Wow! What a toad. Crazy how things go sometimes isnt it. I'm sure you will be on the right end of that sometime.

Nice bull for the lucky hunter... I know its hard area to hunt and even harder not to notch the quality tag. Look on the brightside there is always next year. Keep at it and don't let it keep you down. Thanks for updating

I saw a bigger one come out of there this year. Its definately not easy but can pay off in that unit.

Seatown.
You gave it your best and that has to be good enough. Sometime luck has a lot to do with success.
Keep at it.
Your time will come!

OH SEATOWN !THAT IS JUST HARD FOR EVEN ME TO SWALLOW AND I WASNT THERE,that is a great animal,I gotta admit if they were using my camp I would have to go find another stump to sit on till they leave then head back to camp for a good cry ,kinda had those things happen to me years ago and I have to be thankfull to be alive after my little episode in rimrock during my last modern season ever !!!,well get back at it as I will ! :bash: :bash:

Thanks for keeping it real Seatown. There generally is way more unsuccess than there is success, we just never hear about it.
