Title: Any Jeep Liberty owners out there have a 4x4 issue?
Post by: pendoreilleadventures on November 16, 2013, 05:40:29 PM
Hey I have a 2005 jeep liberty that has a 4x4 issue. The 4x4 engages but is clunking . I was the second owner and bought it from an elderly couple who just used it in town. I have maybe 3000 miles of winter 4x4 uses and maybe 200 miles muddy road uses never pushed it much. worked fine one winter didn't use it again until the following winter and now it quit working.

the 4x4 engages in both 4 hi and 4 lo but kinda of lurges I checked u-joints they are all rock solid. any ideas?

I think the transfer case is a np231 I know that was ran in alot of jeeps can I use one from an older vehicle if this one is toast?

Most of the time, a poor shifting T-case is due to it not being used. Keep cycling it and it will eventually free up.

Drain the fluid and see what comes out. That's step 1.

After 10+ years of servicing Jeeps I can tell you it's nothing common.
