I' m looking for a not-so-far hunt on the Columbia and this looks.like a nice spot. Im primarily after geese. It looks like there is a a boat ramp at Desert Aire. Any thoughts?
-
Hunted there for a few years. got some ducks and geese. Thing I hate is the river can rise or be lowered depending on how they manage the dam
-
Do you have a boat?
-
Yes, 18' G3.

Hunted that island right above the dam, think they called it goose island? Anyway, shot lots of ducks and occasionally some geese. Not sure I'd consider it a "primarily" a goose area though...

Yep goose island is the name - popular hot spot is the game. No secret really. I hear there are feel free to hunt lands near mattawa that are farmed for feed/field/grain corn. I've heard a couple guys hunt them often and with success. You know anything about that Pens Fan?

Plenty of areas to set up from along shore, just scout where the birds are and set up the next day

Be sure to plan accordingly. Grant PUD owns the Priest Rapids Recreation Area boat launch - next to Desert Aire. They're closing the boat launch at night and reopening at 6:00am. AND the Buckshot boat launch area is getting an upgrade this winter and will be closed most the season.
