I haven't been able to find salt herring in ages...
Not familiar with Seattle, I'm sure there is an old square head somewhere with a barrel of it in Ballard, but this square head was wondering if anybody has seen any a little further north? We used to get it in Conway, but haven't seen any in years...
I found some online, but I'd much rather buy it in person....
I wanna make pickled herring for Christmas smorgasbord....

yeah, sure I could buy pre-made pickled herring but im looking for salt herring....
I got my great grandmas Swedish recipe around here somewhere....
I wanna use my own blend of spices; make some home made... so for Christmas smorgasbord I can do pickled herring and sockeye, sockeye lox, hard smoked king, smoked clams, fiskagrateng, king crab, and oysters on the half shell, and if im lucky smelt, smoked or otherwise with more meatballs, potatoes, and lingon berries than you can shake a stick at....
cant beat homemade pickled fish...

Use fresh hearing it's easier to get around here. You can buy it at uwajimaya I think the closest one is in bellevue google it or H-mart in lynnwood. I catch my own right in your back yard below deception pass bridge or in coronet bay or at the oak harbor marina using smelt jigs catch pounds of smelt also, fun winter time activity. PM me if you like and maybe we can set something up.
