I have a back half of a deer hide and a raccoon hide that have been being salted and fleshed. I got some ammonium alum and salt on the way to make my solution for the tanning process and neats foot oil to apply at the end. My question is when I make this solution can I reuse it. Over again. I want to keep the cost down the best I can. I paid a little much not thoroughly looking around first and now found it a bit cheaper but want to continue to drop the price by reusing it if I can. Thanks for any help

My op is yes, others will say no.I use it and use it and use it,when i need more i add to what i have left,as long as it is still clean it can be reused.I clean all my stuff before i put it in so it stays pretty clean. :twocents:

That's what I was hoping to hear. I also was wondering about using a pressure washer for fleshing. I have been using a scalpel blade, that takes for ever, then went to a die grinder which was much better. Just wondering the type of power to use on a pressure washer. Know it works but want to know more about it.
Thanks

You can re-use the pickle as ling as you maintain the pH lever. I do not believe you are supposed to re use the tan. The hide absorbes the tan out of the solution.

It worked great using the pressure washer. I had a 4200 psi that we used and boy howdy I'll never go back to doing it by hand. By hand it took me a couple hours and it looked messy when I quit. Pressure washer took 5 simple minutes and it turned out beautiful.
