Title: Margaret Snow level
Post by: Bullkllr on November 30, 2013, 01:32:05 PM
Heading down to try to fill my bull tag (archery). I know snow level is set to drop on Monday- then be dry & cold. We've got a little on higher hills here. Anything on the ground down that away yet?

I will be there tomorrow trying to fill my archery cow tag as well.  I was unable to get down there ahead of the season to see which gates are open.  Does anyone have any info as to which gates are open?

On my modern hunt last year every gate was open that I went pass along 504. That was late nov. opening day. Decent amount of people driving around after I got my elk. Did not see one person out of there rig all the way out of the unit. Hit the side skidders into the timber or old reprod that don't get travelled and you should be ok. Not sure the snow level.

Was up there yesterday afternoon. The high lakes area looks like it may have snow, but nothing below.
All gates that we saw were open.

Most patches of timber near a food source hold elk. We hunted North facing slopes during Muzzel loader season and it was self defense.

Heard it snowed this morning at Toutle. That should help some. I definitely need to do a better job locating elk than I did in the early.

Maybe see you down there. I'll be solo; maroon '96 f150 with black Brahma canopy.

about 5-6 inches of snow at the 3000 foot level.  Tracks everywhere......three separate encounters, but couldn't get a clear shot....I will try Sunday again.  This is getting frustrating!

Does anyone know how far you can drive up the 2500 road right now?  Are the gates open all the way up as far as the 2800 bridge over the Toutle River?

If you hit the 2500 from the 1000 line I didnt think there were any gates on it. But havent been that way in a long time.

Dang its cold and "Crunchy" out there! All vegetation appears to be freeze dried. Not used to this. Still should have scored yesterday. Had 3 bulls in bow range. Somehow managed to not get a shot.

Most of the sign and animals at far east end. Most snow too.

You can make it to the 2800 from the 2500. It's been open during the week but watch out for logging trucks coming from the 2600.

Thanks....was there today but so was quite a few other people! Blooming on the map it looks like one of the roads off the 2800 will take you to the bottom of Miners Creek....anyone know if this is true?

We were in the east side of the Unit Sunday off the 26 and 2612, quite a bit a snow there, I heard the USFS will close those roads within a week.
