Title: Hunting on the Columbia
Post by: adyment on December 01, 2013, 09:55:22 PM
I live in Goldendale and I've heard that you can hunt the Columbia. The trouble is I've heard mixed responses about where is legal or open to the public. Can anyone help me out with this? I guess what I'm asking is- What sections of the Columbia River are open for public hunting or where can I look to find out what's open? Im talking about the area within an hour or so of the Biggs bridge mainly. Any help would be greatly appreciated by me and my dog  :chuckle:. Thanks.

I believe the first legal spot where you can actually hunt on the Columbia up river is starting at Crow Butte.  Otherwise you have to be so far off the river.  Down river it would be the Washougal area then jumps to about the tail end of Vancouver on the Washington side.  There used to be lots of great spots, but the City of Vancouver keeps expanding and the Refuge keeps gaining land through the BPA wetland enhancement funds.

Huh?  So you are saying you can only hunt on the Columbia upstream of Crow butte and downstream of Washougal?

Yeah, but its not that big. From Wishram down you're good until you hit Washougal.

I hunt the Columbia from ~the Dalles west to ~Cascade locks. The only issue that has ever come up is the mouth of the Klick tribal land boundary.

adyment shoot me a pm, I'm in Glenwood.
