Title: How are you guys doing for late archery elk?
Post by: nw_bowhunter on December 02, 2013, 07:36:20 AM: I was out over the weekend, yesterday was miserable day for weather but I did see a good amount of animals. Had an opportunity on a small group of elk. They were around 100 yards but couldn't get much closer as they seemed pretty spooked. I saw lots of deer and 1 outstanding mule deer buck. I usually take my iPhone but left it in the truck. Sure wished I had it, he was big body and real think on the horns. I'm most likely done for the year. Just 10 months before elk opens again, already thinking about next year :chuckle:

Post by: nw_bowhunter on December 03, 2013, 06:29:44 PM: Where I was I saw about 5 or 6 guys hunting. Some said they got shots but nothing down on the ground. Elk movement was totally different this year compare to last year. (Same Area)

Post by: sakoshooter on December 04, 2013, 07:56:32 PM: Just got home this afternoon from 6 days in the Nile. Saw one or two every day but couldn't get close enough. Saw a heavy 5x5 feeding in an old reprod. Cool to see them even if we can't shoot them. Got some snow Sunday afternoon/evening and the temps dropped and that was on the heels of a 2-3" rain storm.. Darn noisy still hunting and too cold to sit. About 0 degrees this morning when I started packing to leave. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I was camped next to D Rocks group. They just had the buck his Dad shot. I wish everyone luck that's still there.

Post by: Band on December 04, 2013, 10:00:04 PM: I don't know what's wrong with me, I've got a warm cabin in the Teanaway next to elk country and an unfilled east side archery tag in my pocket and I can't work up the desire to make the trip this weekend. :dunno:

Post by: bigjonv on December 05, 2013, 09:30:16 PM: I spent a few days in the Naneum. Saw an elk that had been taken by wolves. Nice fresh wolf tracks I decided to follow :bdid: and came upon the kill. It was the cow that was waiting for me I think. Got in behind a small herd trying to get close enough to get a shot. Never got closer than 200 yards. I will add I was in a few feet of snow and wearing snow shoes. It was probably a sight to see. First time out for the late season. Learned an a lot the hard way. Hiked many many miles. Froze my rear off and had a great time.

Post by: Russ McDonald on December 06, 2013, 04:27:43 PM: Tried to go out today for elk. Way to windy and to cold. Plus problems at home with my furnace. Decided to just end it today. Next year have the fingers crossed. Good year still none the less.

Next year I definitely need to set up my blind further back. I think 25 yards would be a lot better.

As soon as I saw them and reached for my bow they took off. The one this afternoon, at 4:00, just moved out to about 25 yards and stood behind some trees for a half hour. I thought she was going to come back but it got dark and she was still standing there behind those trees.

Post by: jrebel on December 06, 2013, 09:33:32 PM: Only got out for 3 days and saw elk every day. Closest we got was 50-60 yards but the were very skittish and got the heck out of there. Never seen elk so skittish in my life.

What I need to do is spend some time finding out where the animals can be found this time of year and then hit it next year. Had I already known where to find them I would have gone. And I know better than to ask anyone on Hunt WA to reveal their spot. 8)

Almost had a deal till you mentioned Starbucks.....I have officially boycotted them after Schultz flopped came out with a public release asking guns be left out of his establishment.
