I've got one more weekend to go out and hunt before I'm all out of archery season. I've had a couple close calls, but still trying to get my first deer. Hunted my butt off in Sept, no luck. Spent 3 days after turkey day up in the high country, also no luck.
Check these out from last weekend:
Group of 8 deer, no legal shooters.

Two legal elk hanging out in a field that doesn't belong to me.

AAAaaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!! :'(
Any tips on spots/tactics/techniques that'll help me get my first buck?

Striking out myself. At least you're seeing some game

Just keep at it, it'll happen sooner or later. Maybe not this year, or even next but it will. Remember that you learn way more from failures than successes.

Yep...keep at it. Its not like you just scout a spot, go out one morning, shoot a bear, drag it out, bring it to my house so we can skin it, then tell me a little bit of info, i go shoot a bear, bring it home and skin it.
To bad though....it if was you would be the luckiest first timer out!

Bear hunting is easy. You just have to think like a giant animal that only likes to sleep, eat, screw, and eat. I have a strong understanding of brother bear. Deer/Elk are more complicated. :dunno:

Ok....I'd say you are correct. Don't give up and good luck out there.

cracks me up when people post pics of game on private land.. Im going to bet you never tried to figure out who owns it and ask them about hunting? I hunt 99.9% private land and all of it is because I am not afraid to knock on doors.... no hunting signs and all..... be respectful and charming and you might be surprised what happens.... :twocents:

Actually that's my dad's neighbor... But some bonehead fired a rifle out in the woods and scared em off before I could get the green-light to go after those two. I ended up hunting near there the next day but no sight of any animals.

Like said before keep at it  You can't score from your couch...(well at least on big game) :chuckle:

My tip is to hunt a different GMU. 437 closed on the 8th according to the regs.

WHAT!? :bash: :bash: man I'm glad I posted that on here... Not like I would have actually seen a deer because that's been my luck.
Anyway, tomorrow is probably my last day of late season. (Boooo) so wish me luck.
