So I have a Ruger 10/22 and I know its not powerful enough for most shots at a coyote, is there anything you guys would suggest to make it a little more powerful?
-
Sell it and buy a .223
There isn't anything you can do to a .22LR to make it any more than it is.
-
i don't think you are going to make it any more powerful. if it has a stock factory barrel on it you can shoot stingers, but honestly a .22 is not a reliable coyote-killing rig. maybe 30-40 yard broadside perfect world shots....but thats about it. if you have a bull-barrel on it, it is most likely not capable of shooting stingers due to the chamber length...bentz-chambered or something like that.
you could convert it to .17, the stuff is available thru eabco.com to do it, but people have mixed opinions re: the .17 calibers and killing coyotes too. you have to do this conversion correctly in order for it to be safe.

don't sell it...trick it out and plink with it...shoot bench rimfire, etc.
buy a .223 for yotes, but don't sell the 10/22...they are huge fun.

get one in 22mag and it ups the killing power a little. :twocents:

Well I cant sell it, it was a gift from my grandpa. But if I cant wake it any more powerful maybe ill just put a cool looking stock and barrel on it and a big banna clip. haha
-
and a big banna clip.
You better get the big bannana clip while the gettin' is good.

Amen to that, the big ban is sure to return soon. A local gun shop here in the tri-citys is having a boom on ARs and 30 round mags. They say they are selling about 1 AR an hour now. getem while there still here.

Hyper velocity rounds...but make sure to get a bolt buffer!
CCI Velocitor (Fastest 40gr .22lr)
Aguila SuperMaximum Hyper Velocity (Fastest .22lr, over 1,700fps)
Those are the top two, but there are several other hyper velocity rounds out there.
I wouldn't recommend 'em for coyote, though!

bsc-
any word on those rounds in a bentz-chambered barrel like a green mountain barrel?

Yeah, I should've mentioned that...
BTW, I just found the aguila interceptor on the market--the new fastest 40gr round.
As for the "match" chambers generally found on aftermarket barrels--they recommend not to use "stinger length" cases....which includes pretty much any hyper velocity ammo.
Why?
The chamber is shorter. Hyper velocity rounds get their power from slightly longer cases, and slightly shorter (lighter) bullets. With these rounds, the brass can engage the rifling...or at least push the bullet so far into them that extraction of an unfired round becomes nearly impossible.
You CAN, however, get "stinger barrels" from a couple companies if you MUST shooter hyper velocity.

I got the answer, get a running start then fire that should help a bit.. :chuckle:
