Being a rookie and all it has been tough out there this year and darn right frustrating at times but yesterday I finally got into the right place with some friends and had a blast!!! Made all those slow days worth the prize!

Great job

If you can stand the cold, some of the most memorable hunts can happen on these cold winter days. Congrats on your hunt.

 I am over here in Spokane and havent found even close to a place like you pull there! Great job! Any chance you can throw me a bone on where you hunted? Also guessing field hunt due to ice everywhere!!!

I bit the bullet and bought an Idaho(sorry WHF) out of state license but I think the weather helped a lot too. I am out of Spokane and have been struggling to find ducks as well. I had found some spots in scouting but I have been consistently a few days behind the ponds and then the lakes freezing. Yes it is a field. Good ol buckwheat.

Nice job.. saw tons of ducks the other day in a field in Idaho..

Hey how do you like the M2D camp stuff you have on? Work good? Also looks like fleece did it keep you warm enough? Seen it just seeing if I should bite the bullet :dunno:

Find where they roost, when it's this cold, just about any open water will hold waterfowl. Follow them out from the roost in the AM/PM to find where they feed, then set up for them the next AM. Find out who owns or farms the property, ask permission. They come off the Spokane River, Medical Lake, Long Lake and Roosevelt when it's this cold. Lot easier to do on weekdays if you can, less competition.
I suppose some guys have one blind that they sit in all season long, with a few good days. I prefer to scout a lot and stay portable, gotta go where the ducks wanna be. Scouting is the key.

Yes it was the fleece and I got a great deal on it at Walmart just last weekend. Found it on clearance. I had been wanting to buy some for awhile but just stayed with the advantage 4 print since that is what my waders are but once I found out I was going to be in the field last weekend I went and got it. It blends very well when you sit down. My buddies could not see me from the laydown blinds across the field. I was able to buy the whole fleece collection for way too good of a deal. I got a couple birds just sitting down when I was not in the blinds.
