Title: Ruger M77 Tang safety?
Post by: HntnFsh on December 15, 2013, 05:27:10 AM
I always hear and read about the tang safety style Ruger being prefered. And in fact just happen to have a 7 mag that is a tang safety.
Just wondering why they are the prefered style of M77?  Problems with the other style? Ease of use? Other?

The Ruger tang safety is quicker to use then the wing safety but likely not as secure.

There are differences in the stocks from the original to the Hawkeye and MKII's as well. One of the big differences between them besides the safety is the floor plate release. I much prefer the originals with the tang, but all are very good guns/shooters. :twocents:

The older models also had factory adjustable triggers, those were fazed out somewhere in the late 70's I believe.

I have the M77 MK II with a wing safety, it takes some getting used to but I like it.

I have a few Rugers that have a Tang safety's they are easy to use since they are like an Over and under. The down side is you have to take the gun off safe to cycle the bolt.

I also have a few mark II's and it is a 3 position safety like a winchester it allows you to put the safety in a half way position and unload the rifle.

The down side to it is I have just about pulled the trigger out of a ruger when I flip the lever forward and only get to the half way point!!!

Both are good just takes some getting used to.

Mine is the 3 position safety on the side as you described.
I assume that is the wing safety that phool mentioned.
