Title: Pop up blinds
Post by: Fishaholic on December 16, 2013, 11:59:14 AM
I am thinking about buying a ground blind for hunting. Does anyone in the wet side use one and if so what kind? I want it to be portable and under 20 pounds so I can carry it with me.

Thanks
dj

big game or ducks?

I am contemplating one from Ghillie, for photography.   They have multiple varieties from front shield to tent to full dome.   I was going full ghillie but it is still hard to cover the big lens and movement specifically for ducks, so I was thinking more of a dome.   I am sure there are cheaper, less detailed camo ones out there that will work for big game.

If you use a pop up don't expect to be able to carry to much gear, they usually come with a back pack it fills.  If your tall like me 6'2" don't work the greatest for bow would be decent for firearms though.  I'm looking into a hub blind they compact well enough to strap to a pack.

Drawing a bow in one of them lil things is almost out of the question if you don't want the deer to see you!!! unless your a little man!!

I have 2 of them.  One is a Ameristep and not very good for big game with a bow.  I got a Primos Ground Max this October.  73" center hight.  I am 6'1" and shot my deer out of it with a bow.  I learn to shoot sitting down.  Practice sitting on a bucket or chair.  If you want to stand you will want to get a Primos XXL Club http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Hunting-Blinds/Ground-Blinds-Accessories%7C/pc/104791680/c/104702580/sc/104365080/Primos174-Club-XXL-Hub-Blind/1370493.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fground-blinds-accessories%2F_%2FN-1100113%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104365080%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104791680%253Bcat104702580%26gclid%3DCPaa79TItbsCFa9aMgodDgYAxg%26gclsrc%3Daw.ds&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104791680%3Bcat104702580%3Bcat104365080 (http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Hunting-Blinds/Ground-Blinds-Accessories%7C/pc/104791680/c/104702580/sc/104365080/Primos174-Club-XXL-Hub-Blind/1370493.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fground-blinds-accessories%2F_%2FN-1100113%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104365080%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104791680%253Bcat104702580%26gclid%3DCPaa79TItbsCFa9aMgodDgYAxg%26gclsrc%3Daw.ds&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104791680%3Bcat104702580%3Bcat104365080) or a Big Mikes Barnett blind http://www.barronettblinds.com/foundations/store/scresults.asp?category=91*Big-Mike (http://www.barronettblinds.com/foundations/store/scresults.asp?category=91*Big-Mike).  like biggfish said the pack for a hub blind is going to be as long as it is high.  The weight will be right around 20lbs though.  Watch the videos on the Barronett Blinds.  Shows you how they setup and size of the pack.

For deer and what else I might want to shoot. I will be using a rifle. Im not worryed about the size. Im 5'11.  Im more worryed about how to break it up the lines and shape of the blind.
