Title: Hunting partner
Post by: Hunting7mm on December 21, 2013, 08:43:44 PM
I mainly have to puddle jump over here in my neck of the woods and its been slow.  I was wondering if anyone needed a hunting partner for a day or two.  I have a dog and decoys. Thanks

do you ever try any of the lakes near Forks for ducks?  In the past I used to see quite a few in Dec/Jan.  One of the lakes the ducks come to they seem to be attracted to all the swans.

140gr. Barnes xlc shoot the best out of my Remington but I like a bigger bullet and shoot 160gr. Accubonds.  I've taken several big game animals with the accubonds.

I hunt ponds to hidden lakes around here.  I do better jump shooting ponds but birds have been a little slow and was hoping to meet some new people that enjoy duck hunting as much as I do.  Not saying we don't have any birds around here just slower. I haven't seen any teal the entire season. Today was mainly a diver day.

Your best bet in forks area is to concentrate on pacific flyways birds.
Lots of which use the coastal flooded lands and shallow salt bay to move south down the continent.
Wigeons and pintails are a lot more common here than other flyways. Divers like scaup and goldeneyes are easy to find as well.
My money would be to check out fishing spots at the mouth of all those rivers near you. Those are goldmines.
Plus you can catch steellies if ducks are slow.

I don't have a place to hunt on ponds anymore (landowner moved) but I do have a 16' sled and jump shoot the sloughs on the Halis (Chehalis R.) I don't have a blind on it so it's not a decoy boat but I like to cast & blast....
I'm retired so I pick my days to go afield.

Aberdeen, Chehalis it doesn't really matter. I don't care if it's jump shooting to decoying.  I would make a trip to hunt some new area and meet some new people.

It was a slower day but a good hunt with rumrunner.  He made a trip up my way and we got into a few birds. It was a mixed bag day but birds all the same.
