Title: Last Minute 1021 Help?
Post by: Buttertooth on December 27, 2013, 07:59:23 PM
I know it's all private land, but I've had a terrible year hunting and could use a lead on who to call for permission down there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  My family could use the meat.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks everyone.  Just pm me if you have any ideas on who I could call.

Or maybe just the phone number of the game warden down there?  Anything helps.

Thank you,

Dude, you have 6 posts, 4 of which are in this thread. Use your resources, call Olympia ask for a game officers number for that county. Other than that, get out and drive and knock on doors. Bring some kabosh's or a hunting resume. That stuff works.

Yeah I don't post, but have visited the forum weekly at least for over 3 years.  I enjoy the stories, pictures, law updates, etc.

i have never asked for anything from anyone.  I'm not asking for a secret spot, but the name or number for someone to call (game warden) since there are only a couple days left.  Our local GW is a huge help when scouting and knowing who to ask for permission.  I thought somebody on here would extend the same courtesy.  Between surgeries, keeping my business afloat, and other circumstances I just haven't had the opportunity to get out and this single unit that I'm not familiar with is my last hope.

In your little make believe world of forum land post count may matter, but when you're just trying to feed your family it means very little.

Thanks for not helping.

Paul Wik is the bio over there, not sure who the Warden is.

The Army Corps of Engineers has a HMU along the river (Chief Timothy) which is shotgun and bow only.

Sorry can't help much more than that

Just a hunch but Belittling a member (jodakota)on here who has posted and helped others when asking for a handout is probably not the best strategy.

Lesson learned should be don't blame others and your rather transparent attempt to use guilt to gain info on here.Sumpn just provided plenty of info for a start. Next year start doing your work scouting land gaining and access earlier :twocents:

Good luck

Is hunting an economic sound way to feed a family?  I would think at this point so late in the season and not knowing the area or a place to hunt could be a lot of expense and no meat to bring home.  Have you thought about checking classified ads to purchase a portion of a beef?  Not trying to be a smart arse just sayin is all.

:yeah: I don't blame anyone for using this forum to try and gain info. on specific hunts...but its hilarious to read posts when the requester gets mad about a lack of help or someone suggesting they actually go to the unit and scout it out themselves.  :cryriver:

Butter...I think your topic says it all.
It's hard to get expect help or sympathy for that matter when you wait to the last minute.   :twocents:

Thank you!  That is exactly the help I was hoping for!  I also called the warden in my area and he gave me the number for the guy that handles Clarkston!  This is all coming together!

Man, you forum guys are a trip!  I ask for a phone number and nothing but crickets for 2 days other than "You're not important because you don't post enough." Also, Implied I was lazy and unresourceful for not calling Olympia on a Saturday.  LOL.  After re-reading what I wrote, it did come off prickish.  I was frustrated, because I had pretty high hopes of a few phone numbers to call and doe hunting in my future.  From the sounds of it, many of the land owners in the Clarkston area view these deer as pests and openly welcome archery guys to thin the herd.--

Anyway, I apologize to Mr. Dakota.  I appreciate that you at least responded to my question.

FYI-- I was cleared by my Doc Friday for  aerobic activity, so it's not like I decided to start hunting in late December.  You guys make that sound like it's the regular thing around here.  I've been down for 3 months, so I'm pumped to get outside, if only for 1 day.

I DID have a very successful season of scouting with some great deer on camera and even a nice 6x6 up in 113.  It actually should have been my best ever for a number of reasons.  BUT life/health/work happens (sometimes all at the same time!) and sometimes you just need a little help.

Thanks again for the info.

1st of all, welcome to the forum and good luck with your hunt.

2nd, and I'm not telling you this to be a jerk....but all of the info you've asked for here is available here:
http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/contact/ (http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/contact/)
People don't jump out of their seats to help because when you just show up here asking for this, that and the other thing.....all of which is pretty readily available and easily obtained through a little  keyboard work...it comes across as you're not interested in doing the work yourself. Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk...just trying to explain my thoughts on why you got the reaction you got.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Look bro, what I said to you and I guess "not helping you" had absolutely nothing to do with a low post count. Its just you didn't bring anything to the table. I was giving you sound advice, some advice I had to learn through a lot of driving around, many no's, and a few yes's. Every area has a land access manager and its basically their job to help hunters out. If you would have called Olympia, they would have given you his number. Its not the game officers job to tell you were you can hunt. If you do what I told uoi, can guarantee that you will have access to private lands to hunt and will be a lot more rewarding than getting a "hot tip" from someone one this forum. I accept your apology and I never meant to come off as an *censored*. Good luck on your hunt. I hope you tag a bruiser.

Point taken.  Thank you Jackalope/Dakota for the link.  It is saved now. I am not good at searching for stuff on Google and really don't spend much time on the computer.  I actually did look at the State website before I asked and did not see the phone number page.  I must be blind.
Good news is...  Less than 5 phone calls and I have a place to go.
Thanks everyone.
