Title: Ultra sonic cleaner for brass and gun parts before and after pics added
Post by: NW-GSP on December 28, 2013, 09:53:43 PM
I picked up a Lyman turbo sonic 2500 and used it to clean some of my shotgun parts ands it's amazing how well it works.

What cleaning solution do you guys recommend?
What's the best way to dry a pistol after it's been in a ultra sonic cleaner?

Tagging.  I'm thinking of getting a cleaner as well.

NW, how big is the basket of the 2500?  Will it hold a full sized pistol frame?

Does any one use it for rifle or shotgun components as well?

I clean all kinds of things with my sonic cleaner, gun parts, dies, brass, choke tubes you name it. I use a 1/4 tsp lemi shine original and a drop of dish soap per cup of water. Then just rinse and dry when done. Works great for me.

I took the trigger assembly off my benneli nova and put it in there and it was amazing how much crud came out.

I had a choke tube that was completely black from carbon buildup and it got almost all of it off

Ultrasonic is excellent for cleaning benchrest rifle cases as it cleans out the insides of the cases and the necks.  My rifle has a tight neck and I don't like the crud making the necks thicker.

Well, I picked one up yesterday.  I bought the RCBS version.  In the test run last night, I'm impressed so far.  I just grabbed a handful of tarnished 223 and a few 9mm and ran it for 30 minutes.  They came out nice and shiny.  The RCBS is more expensive than the Lyman.  It got good reviews though, and has an easy drain on the side that you can easily dump the fluid with.  Now to put it to the test and run a couple hundred through once I've deprimed them.

That drain would be a nice feature.
