Title: 300BLK w/ 150 gr plated RMR load work
Post by: Jim the Plumber on December 29, 2013, 12:07:44 AM
I've started to do a little load development with the 308 dia 150 grain plated flat nose Rocky Mountain Reloading bullet.
Using cut down LC brass, Wolf small rifle mag primers, 15.6 grains of 820 pull down powder with the 150 gr PFN.
I loaded them on my Dillon 550, full length sized, seated to 1.99. I'm loaded progressive and crimping with the Lee FCD with a 'mild' crimp.
I used an AR-Stoner 20 round curved metal mag, unmodified, loaded to 13 rounds. The bullets were pushing out the sides and I could not reliably load any more rounds.
I'm running a CMMG 16" 8 twist upper with carbine gas.
There was very heavy fog at the range, so I only shot for function, off hand to 15 yards.
The group is 3 shots unsupported off hand with the 1-4 Leupold VX Hog scope on 1 power.
All rounds ( 20 total) cycled both suppressed and un suppressed and locked the bolt back.
The brass 'looked' fine and upon reloading the fired brass, the primer pockets were as snug as the first reload.
Velocity unknown, accuracy at 100 yards unknown.

Looks fun.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are you making this for?   Some tactical application, or just a new form of firearms fun, or??

I've seen a couple guys at my home range working on subsonic loads and it looks like their having a lot of fun....

Dan-o, these loads are just for fun. I make my own brass from 5.56 brass and the 150FP is about 12cents, so I have a fairly inexpensive plinking load. Good for steel, and when suppressed has a mild report ( even tho they are supersonic) and recoil.
The 300 BLK is one versatile and Fun cartridge in the AR-15 platform.
