Rasbo, the yakima is where to fish for cats!  The water needs to be warm then the bite is on!!

I use stew meat soaked in garlic salt and steak seasoning out in the sun for a few days. Or fresh cut bait.  Late at night or early morning hours..  Good times for sure..

Doesn't have too be too warm......... Some of the biggest cats I have caught have been in the end of February when they start to move in from the Columbia.
It's a great time and they get BIG!

You can launch at Columbia Point in Richland and run up. You will want to do it in the daytime as there is a mudflat and you need to stay in the channel.

Or launch at the end of Columbia Center drive. Few easy spots around bateman island

Had some of our most fun fish in trips on the lower Yak. We float it and fish for cats and smallies. Down at the mouth is real good!!!!

It gets good when the water warms up, fish the last 3 miles towards the Columbia. Around bateman Island is a great spot also.

Rasbo, it really depends on what stretch of the river you are fishing.  Some of the spots are swifter, while others are more slack.  I have used as little as 3/8oz up onto 2 oz.

I'm going to have to try the Yak this year.  I usually go to Palouse and sometimes Brown Lee reservoir in Oregon.  Yak is actually closer to me.

Hope to see some of you out there this year!

Gonna be hot in just a couple weeks.  As long as the water starts to warm.  The big ones are gonna be cruising!

The river is way out of shape..  With this rain and snow melt. We need a dry period then its game on.

  :yeah:

Starting to get all my trapping gear stored for the year and all I can think about is catfishing. The Yakima has always been good to me and my boy but there's nothing better than a night on the Palouse.

It is high and it will blow out!  Hopefully we get some decent weather, and before June!

It's all dependent.  I've caught them in 3' up to 20'. They will move in shallow to spawn that's for sure.

Fished the Palouse over the weekend. Blown out, choc milk colored and 43 degrees. One fish all weekend. The water is high enough right now we were able to run the jet boat all the ways to right below the falls. What a ride that was lol...Tons of debris in the water..

I've only caught a couple of small cats in Lind Coulee, but I've seen a couple of real nice ones come out of there. One was 19# and another was 15ish. I saw them up at the Mardon store. They also catch some toads up Frenchman's Wasteway.
