Do you want to take the whole thing off or just the screen? I'd recommend one of these. You can always rig it to take everything off but that might be more a pain then it's worth.

I bought a Garmin Echo 200, to replace my Garmin 240 blue that died last summer. I have been totally impressed with the quality. I added a speed sensor for it as well. I have it bracket mounted on the side brace of my 13 ft Smoker Craft. The unit can be removed and stored while the depth sensor and speed sensor cable stays in the boat.

I use a portable 12 v rechargeable battery that I take out and recharge. I can get two to three full days of fishing of one charge.
