My daughter drew a toutle cow tag this year and is real excited about a chance at her first elk. The cow hunt opens 11/19 and runs to the end of the month. We just got back from five hard days of hunting over on the coast where she walked her tail off behind locked gates in the typical nasty west side weather trying to find a bull and all we could locate were 6 different spikes....no good in a 3pt or better area. She's bound and determined to get her elk this year and I'm feeling the pressure to get her in front of one as she has a second chance with the cow hunt but I have never hunted the toutle unit and would appreciate any info to get us started. Obviously not looking for anyone's hot spot just some place to start. I have taken a number of elk in west side units with both modern and archery gear so understand the rosies pretty well and don't mind wearing out some boot leather. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

pretty much anywhere in the toutle.
i shot my bull off the 255 this year, we saw elk everywhere. had some cows close to us on the 1680 i think. it is off the boundary with the coweeman. the 1400 side was real good too had a heard of 25+ all within 200 yards. you should be able to locate them by glassing the clearcuts/reprod and then go from there. if you can get her ready for some long shots. they said 20% winter kill up there last winter, but with the numbers of elk we saw i don't believe it. also we always saw cows above coweeman lake but it is steep rough country up there... if you can get there because of snow.
also the road that goes up below coweeman lake from the 1600 has a lot of elk around.

amywhere in the toutle. get off the beaten path and push the timber.... should be very easy to get a cow........ also I have a buddy that owns a ton of land in the toutle, might be able to help you out
