Title: Todays outing
Post by: demontang on November 11, 2008, 06:28:14 PM
My father and I went out coyote hunting today. After making 4 stands and nothing we headed to a really good spot I know of. As we walked in we jumped two coyotes but had no shot so I ran up the ridge to cut them off and shot at one and missed :duh: then the rodeo began, it ran back down to my dad and he shot at it and missed then I gave it another crack and missed again. After that I turned on the pup in distress for a little bit and nothing. I took my mag out and was going to throw in a few more rounds and I hear a coyote challenge barking  I though it was my dad trying to get my attention but came from up hill so I jumped up and looked. The other coyote was at the top of the ridge barking at my dad, all I could see was a head and neck so I pulled up a bang and I heard yelp with a red mist in the scope no more coyote. My dad didn't see it run away but when I went to find it I couldn't :madder: the grass was really tall and there where great big rocks every where with gaps between. At Least we saw and got to shoot at something :thumb:

I cannot wait to break my curse!  At least Demon is getting opportunities.  I had one in the fog last weekend that I was not fast enough for.........but that was it.  Just one.

I have had the scope of cures a few times. My 338 was off 3ft high 3ft right once :yike:, I couldnt figure out why every shot was hitting high right when I was shooting at a coyote. :P

Me and my roommate are living south of Ft. Lewis in Rainier.  We are both new to coyote hunting and would like to see if anyone was willing to trade some secrets of the trade to a couple soldiers.  I'm alright, not great, but alright with a mouth call, he is learning (slowly).  Is there anywhere around here that has some decent coyote hunting?  Thanks all, and i hope yall wouldnt mind trading some secrets to us.

God Bless,
Dan

Dan,

Try around the Skookumchuck area (Johnson Creek Rd) between Rainer and Tenino. There are several logging roads with gated entries off this road where you can park and hike in. If you go all the way to where it T's and go to the left you will pass the pheasant release site (big fields on your right before you hit the river) there will be a parking lot on the right with a gated logging road just opposite on the left. You could try up there. If you go right at the T and go to the next left(?) (I think... something creek rd?) and follow that back it goes right into a main haul road that you could access a lot of land. I have never been to far down it so not sure how far back in it goes. One other option you could try is the Vail tree farm just out of Rainer. All close options for you. Might want to wait until late buck dies down and the woods calm down.
