Title: Hunting fund paid off
Post by: BIGDOG253 on January 07, 2014, 10:22:53 AM
My buddies and I have been saving our spare change for over a year now and had saved enough money to go on a guided hunt with Eagle Lakes Ranch. We had a great time and ended up getting 3 birds shy of our limit. If you are looking to go on guided hunt, Eagle Lakes Ranch is great place to go.

$300 a hunter if you are just going there to hunt and not staying at the lodge. We stayed at Mardons Resort, which was a lot cheaper than staying at Eagle Lakes Lodge. But, like I said, we saved our change over the last year and a half which paid for the hunt.

Duck are actually good fare.

Most guys who think duck taste bad have eaten it, cooked by someone who obvisouly does not know what they are doing and should probably stay out of the kitchen.

Jackmaster, who cooked the duck you tasted and disliked?

Congrats to the hunters!

actually iceman i am a desent cook, i have cooked duck in all differant manners and it just dont taste right, ive cooked mallards on down to dirt divers, i have found that when i soaked it in buttermilk for 24 hours and then bacon wrap it and fry it, then it turns out pretty good, i do like duck jerkey though, but like those resteraunts that sell a roasted duck for an arm and a leg, well lets just say those cooks need to go back to cookn class  :chuckle: :chuckle:  and yes sir mark, often i am being a smart a%$   :chuckle: you gotta head out mark and check out what i have done at the lake, the dogs sure will like it, it looks like a park and i built a cool out house, its called "KIMI'S CRAPPER"  :chuckle:

Looks like you had a good time.    We are headed over next weekend to do a Goose Hunt at Eagle Lakes. Was there in November and as usual just crushed the big honkers.

irishevox, google   Eagle Lakes Ranch for the website.

  looks like a good shoot.  I think personally I would cry if I shelled out good $$$ to end up shooting Mallards.  Maybe I'd pay to hunt Seaducks like Eiders or tree ducks, since we don't have them around here.  But for the most common duck in the U.S........I couldn't do it.

I will definitely admit a chef can mess up duck. Cook it like chicken and it tastes like doodoo. Cook it like a steak and it can be excellent.

I am also convinced some duck goes bad in the field before it gets processed, laying around all day in the sun, or on the bank, in the boat, instead of cooling. You wouldn't treat a chicken from freddies like that, why a duck? :dunno:

Duck is excellent fare.  Cook it like a fine cut of elk steak, keep it rare to medium rare at the most.

Or you could try the Swiss Cheese Duck recipe, I like it best after frying in butter with garlic....
