Looking at getting a new truck and debating on the mega cab or the crew cab?
-
I'd say neither and go buy a Super Duty. ;)
-
Depends on what you want it for. Is the back for hauling stuff you want dry and secure? Kids? Small to medium size dogs? Adults?
-
Go with the crew cab. The mega cab just looks god awful. If you really want that much rear cab space then buy a mini van.
Sent from my space modulator.
-
Gonna put full sized passengers in the back seat? If so...mega cab. Passengers, adults anyway, don't fit in the back seat otherwise.
-
I have the crew cab tundra which is pretty close to the megacab dodge, screw the bed size that is what utility trailers are for

To a point i disagree...
Im 6'2 and 245lbs i fit comfortably in the back seat. But when im in the back its usually behind an adult that is 5'9".
4 large guys and your going to want the mega cab
-
I've owned both and would only buy a mega cab. My three daughters in the back of the crew cab were constantly kicking the backs of the seats. The back seats of the mega cab all so recline some what so there more comfortable.

Do you like bed space? If so get a crew cab.
-
i second the tundra, more power plenty of room and way better gas mileage, and sorry to say but they are built better and run longer :peep: :peep: :chuckle:

What is way better gas mileage? How much horse power out of the tundra?

I thought the tundras got the worst gas mileage? :dunno:

i have the 08 tundra, i beleive she came stock with 383 horse, somethn close to that anyways, it has the 5.7 v-8 she has tons of power an halls balls, and she still gets 17 to 18 miles to the gallon, which is damn fine for a v-8 with that kind of power maybe it was 283 stock horse, idk, not really a motor guy, but the truck is awesome, i do however wish i still had my 76 f250 4x4 factory high boy she was a beutiful truck, dark ford metalic blue, damn i miss her :'( :'( :'(

Sorry but I don't consider that way better gas mileage as my 10' dodge crew 5.7 hemi at 390hp gets 15-17mpg on the highway.
-
I'd buy whichever is available with an 8' bed.
-
Thats no better mileage than a cummins mega cab! And more power? I would get into a towing contest with a tundra any day. It also wont run longer than a cummins with regular maintenance.
-
CCortez, I will try to answer your question (without the thread hijack...).
I just (in the last month) purchased a new truck--but in another brand. I had the same issue, which is full-sized cab or not. My last truck had the "1.5 cab" and I really hated it. I could not fit adults comfortably in the back seats. I went for the full sized cab (with four real doors) for exactly this reason. The net increase in truck length (1') is a bit of a problem because the turning radius has increased, but I can deal with that.
My opinion: A man (and, let's face it, pickup trucks are mostly purchased by males) cannot have a truck, take it hunting, and hope to put more than 2 adults in the vehicle unless he buys the full-sized cab option. Spend the money, and get the larger cab. That's what I just did.
And, by the way, don't worry about the mileage.

No way. My 6 year old can barely fit back there without kicking the seat back.
Unless the front seats are all the way forward....
Is there even such a thing as a new Ram mega cab with a gas motor? You can get a new Ram truck with full sized back doors/seats, or with the 1.5 cab or the mega cab. Which one is the OP looking for?
-

:yeah:

I own a 07 Mega Cab with a 5.9 Cummings. I can haul five adults and pull my 20 foot Raider boat over Sherman Pass headed salmon fish to Brewster passing Toyota Tundras on the way. :chuckle: I get 20 MPG on the highway if I keep it under 65 MPH with out the boat of course. I average 15-17 MPG pulling the boat unless I am pulling hills such as Sherman Pass then it is closer to 12-14 MPG. The only complaint I have is the bed size. But that is why I own a utility trailer too. Great truck and lots of room. :twocents:
-
I have a 2002 Ram 1500 4 dr, I have four adults in mine all the time. My two boys are both over 6". I usually have them and our border collie in the backseat. In our case it is not so much knee room in the back that is the issue. I have an amplifier mounted under the drivers seat so the people in back only have one position to put their legs in.
When I haul our grand kids, we use three car seats in back with no problem, except when they kick the drivers seat in time to Veggietales County songs :o
I do miss having an 8"bed, even though I rarely fill the 6" bed, I still feel cheated, :dunno:

They have mega cabs in gas style. but I'm looking at a diesel truck. And wanna have my family comfortable in my truck. I have a gmc crew cab that's lifted. I just wanna know if its that big of a differnce between the two cab styles

Mega cab the whole way.. Have owned a 06 crew cab an now a 06 mega cab.. Wouldn't ever go back. The extra room is nice. The cab space is worth more than the extra bed space in my opinion. Oh an if you buy a super duty I'm sure there's a few nice cummins owners here will tow ya home :)

Dodge didn't have a crew cab in '06,they had a quad cab which is basically an extended cab with four actual doors. The new Rams have an actual crew cab which is comparable to GM and Fords Crew Cab.

I'm sure he meant quad instead of crew Rick. :)

I have a 06 5.9 liter mega cab. The amount of space is amazing. Reclining car seats no issue. Need to roll out a sleeping bag and camp in the back seat can do. I carry two kids and four adults without any issue or being squashed. Wife loves the space, especially 20" behind the rear seats and the floor compartments for odd and ends. I have the 3500 diesel and pulls my 36' 5th wheel like a champ. GREAT TRUCK.
-
An as far as big difference between a gmc quad cab an a mega cab is say yes... I know my quad can compared to my mega cab is huge.. My dads 6'4" an he can sit comfortably in the back seat with the front seat all the way back. It's nice..
-
I have a 2006 MegaCab with Cummins diesel. I can't say enough good things about it. I chose it solely because of the extra cab space. I live 100 miles from the nearest big city (Costco, Home Depot, major shopping) and I can fit a lot of stuff in back knowing it is locked securely while shopping. I had a foam mattress cut to size and I can sleep back there, with room for an ice chest and a dry box. I don't have kids, so the seats are rarely in the up position, but when they are there is room behind them to keep things inside, secure and dry. Bed size is sacrificed, I would have gladly paid more for an eight foot bed, but that isn't an option. Full sheets of plywood can still be carried, even with the tailgate up. I just turned 150,000 and haven't needed any repairs to the motor. Oil and fuel filter changes, that's it.

:yeah: My work truck is an 07 5.9L mega cab 2500 4x4 and sure love all that room, only down side is my Personal truck is a 02 Tundra access cab :bash:

What? I have an 06 Quad cab, it is a true quad cab. Maybe I'm not understanding your post but 02 was the last year Dodge made the crew cab. Which was a 4 door extended/crew cab. They stopped making them when the body style changed
If I were t buy another truck, it would be the quad cab. The longer bed would be nice to have, but you can always have that done later if you really need it.

They are in mid process of doing another one in the shop right now.
That truck - the one that was used for the website - was a sweet truck!!!
-
That's sweet. Awesome welds, too. The price for that is pretty reasonable, I'd do it if I had the big dodge

Sorry but I don't consider that way better gas mileage as my 10' dodge crew 5.7 hemi at 390hp gets 15-17mpg on the highway.
I get 18 MPG with it leveled, and on 33-12.5's, 390HP, 401 Ft Torque and I have smoked my buddies hemi's and after 10 years and 200k it will be still running and worth something.

Looking at getting a new truck and debating on the mega cab or the crew cab?
look for an 06 gmc dura max crew cab long bed, I couldn't imagine spending 60,000 on a new truck!! Really 60,000 for a truck?? I would buy property for that kind of money before a truck.

Why not buy both?
Write a check for the truck and then go write a check for the property.

If you're haulin people, especially road trips, there is no equal to a Mega cab.
Reclining the back seats is key to kids going to sleep and staying asleep. Besides, the extra room behind the back seat is especially nice in Wa where it rains all the time!
If you want a long bed then crew is your only option. The CC has the same rear leg room as a Mega without the reclining seats.
07 Mega here and don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon.
-
Haha better gas mileage... I have a 2008 mega cab with the cummins. I got 22 mpg going to colorado and back loaded doing 75. Plus i can pull your house off its foundation.
I did spend 750 to do a DPF delete and a new exhaust, and programmer.
Ccortez i would say find an 06 or 07 mega cab if you can. Get the 5.9 so you don't have to do what i did.
-
Cummins 4 door. Mine isnt a Mega but it works just fine. Whole family fits well including 2 carseats, 6 people. Nobody complains. 20mpg and 12-15 towing. Tons of power and its on 37's.

I got quoted 48k and that was with the package that had everything :dunno:

I would go with a quad cab. I still think that the beds are too short on a quad cab anyways. Mega cab is for them city folks. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
