What choke do you all use when shooting 00 buck. I will be shooting a 3" 00 buck out of my Remington 870 for yotes. I have never done this so would like some of your guys input.
What choke do you you guys like?
What is a lethal range (approx.)
I will be patterning the shot, but would like a starting point so I don't waste to much $$$$ in the process. These buckshot loads are not cheap.
Thanks
Johnny

I wouldn't use a full choke, onything more open is better since there is no real benifit to keeping the groups tight.
I pour my own buck shot and dropp the shot inside a shot wad. This keeps tighter groups becuse the balls do not spin as they go down the barrel. My next round i will be addign buffering (likely ground corn cob) withthe shot to try and keep it from spreading at longer ranges.

Here's a 100 page thread dedicated to shotguns on predators complete with pattern testing with many different tubes on another site , GOOD READ.

I use a Carlson's Dead Coyote chokes in my 870 and Combo gun. It might not get the maximum out of every load but works decent with most.
I prefer #4 Buck, Nickel plated F or Dead Coyote and have used copper plated Lead BB's with success.

is it a 15 pellet load? I tend to like modified for that combo. when using the 9 pellet 2 3/4", I like the full.
-
I also prefer #4 and a full choke.
-
I also run a Carlson dead coyote choke tube. I have had way better luck with 4 buck over oobuck as well.
-
Interesting that all of you like the full choke. I have seen them/ turkey chokes used to deadly effect with BBB copper coated turkey shot in 3.5"
-
I think the smaller (#4 etc) pellets will respond to a choke better than 00.. with an improved cylinder- expect as much as an inch spread or pattern per yard.. (which means a 10" pattern at 10yds) depending on your gun, load, wad.. you may see half that spread.. pattern and see..

Thanks for all the advise....My online research (other than HW) seems to have a consistent theme. Cylinder choke with 3" 00buck will produce deadly shots to approx 50-60 yards. I will do my best to hit the range tomorrow and pattern a few shells. The other consistent theme is 00 buck does not pattern well out of a full choke at the same ranges.
Hopefully I will have pics of patterns tomorrow.
