Pro-gun Initiative 591 and anti-gun, anti-hunting Initiative 594 will be heard by the House Judiciary Committee on 1/28/14 at 1:30 PM in House Hearing Rm A, John L. O'Brien Building. Both initiatives will be heard by the Senate Law and Justice Committee on 1/29/14 at 1:30 PM in Senate Hearing Rm 1, J.A. Cherberg Building.
We need everyone possible that can make one or both committee hearings to do this. This is the most important legislative request of the session. From what I was told, the gun groups don't want anyone to testify, just go to the hearing(s), sign in as supporting I-591 and in opposition to I-594. The Second Amendment groups have a specially crafted message and will be presenting this. If you can make only one hearing, please make the House hearing on Tuesday as the make-up on the Senate Committee is much more favorable to our side. The Senate Law and Justice Committee Chair Make Padden is a good friend of our community. This is critical we turn out in force as you know the anti-gun community will be there. Please have everyone also pass this to their family, friends, and anyone who cares about our right to keep and bear arms and the right to hunt.
Dave Workman posted the following. Very wise advice and it should be followed:
If you go, be on your best behavior.
This is a legislative hearing in a legislative atmosphere. It's not a gun show, demonstration, rally or hunting camp. Leave the long guns at home, too. You're likely to see a bunch of television cameras.
• Dress appropriately (i.e. no camo, no goofy T-shirts, etc.)
• No clapping, cheering, booing, hissing, catcalls, etc. NO SIGNS. They don't allow signs.
Please follow this to a T. The last thing we need is people on our side with boorish behavior that is caught on the numerous television cameras that will surely be there. With the lame stream media, if the opposition is disruptive and we are disruptive, who do you think they will show?
If you can't make either hearings, please call the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 and let your legislators know that you support I-591 and oppose I-594.

HB 1561 is also being heard that day on short barreled rifles. :IBCOOL:

Sorry I am unable to go, hope others can make it.
-
I'm going to make it if at all possible!

Yesterday’s arrest of teen heartthrob Justin Bieber may have temporarily distracted some folks from more important business coming up in Olympia, but trust Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) to get the focus back on track with an e-mail alert today to its members, about 12 hours after the National Rifle Association alerted its members, regarding next week’s hearings on the dueling initiatives.

-
Here's a you tube clip giving a take on what I-594 is gonna do to us if we don't get I-591 passed!
Remember the anti's are pushin' I-594 and as Seattle go's, we all go!
I 594 is Firearm Registration (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbbKW0o8Prk#ws)

Can someone explain to me in a nutshell how I-594 threatens hunting? I'm admittedly lazy when it comes to reading legislation. Thanks in advance.

Do we think that SBR's will become legal soon? I've been hearing this for a while but don't know the "skinny" on their progress to legalization for the public
-
We have hearings scheduled and the prime sponsor will continue to offer the legislation until it passes or he dies. :chuckle:

I can
So say you need a rifle to go deer hunting your friend has one and say's he'll loan it you. Before you can even go you would both have to go to some Gun shot police station or anyother place that could conduct a background check pay and exurbanite amount of money of which you should not have to in the first place since this is America and not Russia or UK in order to pay for the background check.
OF which the fee would cut into hunting and any other kind of item you might have wanted or needed but can't now because you had to pay a fee to go through a background check you've passed or your friend has passed before when purchasing said firearm from a licensed dealer even if it's been a few years he has or you have.
Then when that's done he could transfer you the gun, but more likely not over the allotted time that he or you set probably on the paper work you both are forced by that state now to undergo that you did not have to before or be fined or jailed if it does go over that amount of time.
Better yet say you did not undergo this horrendous bit of crap and your friend just lent you that gun you get caught without a background check while hunting boom your busted and jailed! enough for you? :bash:
-
I'm not trying to be a smartass. I hope it didn't come across that way. I was just hoping for a couple bullet points that highlighted the impact on hunting.
-
:IBCOOL:
NP
to me you did anti gunners often like to hide behind crank statements like that so I took the initiative.
Hope I was clear though at first glance it may not hinder hunting but if could in the longer run!
SHould of said too gun ctrl is not about crime ctrl but about people ctrl and the 2nd amendment was never about hunting but thats been said and done so wanted to use the direct approach.
But NP glad I could help if so!
-
if i could i'd be there to show my voice for I 591 and appose I 594.
-
Very scary stuff indeed,Just 1 question how are the cops supposed to know its not your gone in the first place? :dunno:
one of the things that leads to more questions and confusion...and more attempts from the antis. I think the only guns they can be reasonably certain about are the guns with a manufacture date after the date of enactment. (hasn't been passed and hope it doesn't--so no enactment) Anything older, then no records or registries so the cops wouldn't know.
-
Now I just got through reading the I-591...........Its no good as far as I'm concerned either,we talk about not letting the big G have so much power over our state and then we should vote to not let them enact new gun laws unless its a national standard? :bash: This I-591 needs to go in a differant direction in my op. :twocents: It should be more along the lines we the citizens of WA. state as a free state protected by the CONSTITUTION OF THIS UNITED STATES hereby with all the powers given to it by said constitution will not allow any gun registry,or back ground check other than that that is allready law. :twocents:
Herein lies the problem with far too many people in our camp.
Steve: Get your initiatives straight.
I-594 is the one you read, not I-591 which is the measure supported by gun folks, hunters and law enforcement firearms instructors..
Maryland mall shooting helps destroy gun control myths
Three myths of gun control were further eroded with yesterday’s Mall of Columbia shooting in Maryland…

Dave, perhaps it would be helpful to review the bill numbers and provide a for or against recommendation.
I strongly encourage everyone to at the least send your representatives an email stating your position. If possible go and sign in in person. I know the process can seem futile, but they do notice when they are flooded with input from their constituents. Nothing like filling a hearing room to get their attention.

Please take action to help defend and protect our Second Amendment rights!
Pro-gun Initiative 591 Protect Our Gun Rights and anti-gun Initiative 594 will be heard by the House Judiciary Committee on 1/28/14 at 1:30 PM in House Hearing Rm A, John L. O'Brien Building.
http://www.leg.wa.gov/House/Committees/JUDI/Pages/Agendas.aspx
Both initiatives will also be heard by the Senate Law and Justice Committee on 1/29/14 at 1:30 PM in Senate Hearing Rm 1, J.A. Cherberg Building.
http://www.leg.wa.gov/SENATE/COMMITTEES/LAW/Pages/Agendas.aspx
Actions you can take to make a big difference:
• Attend the Committee hearings at the times and places listed above. Large numbers of Second Amendment supporters showing up at the hearings will send a clear message to the legislators and the general public via the media that will be present. Capitol Campus map: http://www.des.wa.gov/SiteCollectionDocuments/campus-map.pdf
o Carpool if you can; there is limited parking.
o Sign-in and indicate that you SUPPORT I-591: Protect Our Gun Rights and you OPPOSE I-594. If you sign up to testify and are called, be brief, have your facts straight, and stay within your allotted time. Be professional. There should be pro-Second Amendment groups testifying; their carefully composed testimony will also represent us. Just being there will make a big difference.
o Dress appropriately (i.e. no camo, no goofy T-shirts, etc.)
o NO clapping, cheering, booing, hissing, catcalls, etc. NO SIGNS. They don't allow signs.
• Call the legislative hotline: 1-800-562-6000. Let them know that you are respectfully asking that your representatives SUPPORT I-591: Protect Our Gun Rights and OPPOSE I-594 the anti-gun initiative.
• Contact the Committees and respectfully ask them to SUPPORT I-591: Protect Our Gun Rights and OPPOSE I-594 the anti-gun initiative. Write as if you are testifying in-person: Be brief, have your facts straight, and be professional. It is best to use your own words, but your message might be something like:
I am writing to respectfully ask that you SUPPORT I-591: Protect Our Gun Rights because it is very simple and will protect our Second Amendment rights.
I am also writing to respectfully ask that you OPPOSE I-594 which is an unnecessary, over-reaching attack and burden on the rights and freedoms of law-abiding citizens; it will have no effect on criminals and do nothing to prevent the malevolent and evil acts of criminals.

When I called the legislative hot line the lady asked if I had any other instructions for my representatives and senator and I asked her to ask them to pass it onto the separate committee members. We will see if that helps.

The hearings are today and tomorrow. Please make a showing if you can. The physical presence of lots of Second Amendment supporters will make a big difference. All can sign-in and check the box to SUPPORT I-591 and OPPOSE I-594.
Thank you.

There was a huge turnout, but it was hard to tell who was on which side of the fence. Much of the support testimony for I-594 was emotionally based just as it was for all of the anti-gun legislation introduced last year. Our sincere sympathy and condolences should go out to all people that suffer loss through violent crimes; however, we should never give up any of the rights and freedoms guaranteed to us by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights (i.e. the Second Amendment).
Several representatives from pro-gun and pro-hunting organizations supporting us did an excellent job with their testimonies. Those that I recall hearing were the National Rifle Association, Second Amendment Foundation, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, Washington Arms Collectors, the Hunters Heritage Council, and some others (I cannot recall their names).
I would encourage all who can make it to please attend tomorrow's Senate Law and Justice Committee hearing. At the very least, please take advantage of the Legislative hotline and the email addresses provided to communicate to both Committees. Your voice does make a difference. Please let them hear from you; help to protect and defend our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Thank you.
-
I hope we see a large turnout of Second Amendment supporters at the Senate Law and Justice hearings today.
-
We need to keep this up top. I'm not sure people realize how bad I594 is for gun owners. There was a good turnout on the pro- side today, but its hard to tell.
-
I sent out my e-mails
-
Am I the only one who thinks Sen Jeannie Darneille looks like Sir Elton John?
State Sen. Jeannie Darneille (D-27th District) candidly revealed, “I am not a person who handles guns. I don’t own guns. I don’t…they shock me, quite frankly. We’re an open carry state and when I see people open carrying their guns, while it may be perfectly legal, it creates a visceral, personal, physical reaction in me as it does in other people…”
-
Must be a lot like the visceral, personal, physical reaction in me when I see this woman's face coupled with her ignorance.

We'll likely be hearing a lot more about I-594 (The anti-gun, whittle away at our rights, more useless bureaucratic red-tape initiative that affects only law-abiding citizens and does nothing to prevent the malevolent and evil acts of criminals). Keeping this topic as a "Sticky" is definitely important to ensure people continue to be informed and to make it easy to take action regarding this very ominous initiative.
Here are the links to the testimony given on both days. There were a large number of people that attended the House Judiciary hearing so many of them did not get a chance to speak. There were not as many people at the Senate Law and Justice hearing, and it appeared that all people that wanted to speak had that opportunity. In both cases, people could also submit their written testimony if they chose to do so. If you were not able to attend the hearings, it is worth your time to watch the testimony.

The anti-gun crowd (supporters of I-594) continuously focus on the emotional anti-gun mileage they can get out of horrible tragedies versus drilling down to the root causes of the social ills that are the primary causes of those tragedies.
