I just picked myself up a used bear compound bow. It came with a few extras Arrows, broadheads and a target. It also came with a release that I've been told is cheezy and its seems like its too long for my me and is not adjustable. I went to my local sportsman and i was pricing a new one and for the prices i was seeing id like to get some reviews of some brands, Looks like Tru Fire or Scotts archery were gonna be what it came down to. This being a first time Bow purchase3 and I'm Green to all of this i was hoping for opinions on whats better product.

Welcome to the world of bow hunting it's addicting! Your best bet is finding a shop or if you have to head to cabelas and try as many releases as you can. What works for me might not work for you.

And when I say try I mean shoot with your bow not just try them on.

Welcome!
As suggested, go try some so you have an idea of what you like. I shoot the Scott little goose and wildcat. I like them due to the small profile.

Looks like the closest archery shop to you is in Belfair: http://www.penproshop.com/ (http://www.penproshop.com/) Go in there and start up a relationship with them. Tell them what you have, that you think it's too long, and find out what your options are. The release you have might work fine if the draw length can be shortened. I would see if you can work with what you have first. Then you can start upgrading. If you dump a bunch of money into upgrades and then decide you don't like it, your second post on the forum is likely to be a WTS: Archery set-up.

I just picked up the 2014 Hoyt charger an love it. Great price point and so far as I can tell it shoots just as well as the 1000 dollar bows. Really solid back wall. Chromosome at 282 fps with 29" draw at 70lbs. I love this bow. Never have I been more satisfied. I strongly suggest checking one out if your looking at new bows

I have used Scott releases since day one......tried a few others and still shoot Scott....I like the Mongoose.
Take opinions for what they're worth, and then you be the deciding factor on what is best........not what others have and say is the best, but what you like the best.

Thanks for the help and the quick responses, I think gonna put off buying one for the moment and try some different brands and styles. It came with a cheap cobra so its better than nothing and its working for now. I'm pretty stoked to be on this forum, seems like good info, stories, pics and such..
