Title: Rainier Retriever Club
Post by: need2huntmor on January 25, 2014, 04:29:50 PM
Just checking to see if anyone is a member of, or has info about, the Rainier Retriever Club.  I was going to talk to them at the Sportsman's Show, but nobody was in their booth on Thursday when I was there.  I will contact them directly also, but was just wondering if anyone on here has any first hand knowledge, or opinions, on them.

I'm getting a new lab pup next month and want to do all the training myself.  I was just looking for some help and support in doing it.  Are they a good resource?  I was hoping for something close to home.  I live in Graham.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Bryan and Cindy were at the show, they have http://www.rockingmlabs.com/ (http://www.rockingmlabs.com/) and are members of the Rainier Ret Club.

Good people and could be a great asset  on how to train your dog. They worked with me and taught me how to train my lab

needtohuntmor,

I thought there was a thread here somewhere about a training group getting together but it might have been one of the other forums.  Which books are you reading?  Is this your first pup?  Do a search on the net for Evan Graham, he's got some good resources out there.

Gasman,

What breeding is your dog out of?  I have 2 of their dogs at home now, they are really good people.  My 10 month old BLM is going down to them for force fetch here in the next couple months.  He is actually my 3rd dog from them.

This will be my first pup I have trained for hunting.  I've had dogs before (and one boxer now) but never trained one for hunting.  I have read The 10-Minute Retriever (John and Amy Dahl) and Training The Hunting Retriever (Jerome Robinson).  I will look at Even Graham and Rocking M Labs and I will keep an eye out for any training groups.  Thanks for the info.

My dog is not one of there's. They dont breed chocolate labs.

I met them about 4 years ago when looking for help with training my lab. Talked with them with some extent at the Sportsmens Show, got a call from Cindy a few weeks later and started training with them shortly after that or should I say, they started training me  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

They are great teachers and learned so much from them, more then any book or video I have. Hands on experience is way better and they were happy to teach me. Bryant did the force fetch on the dogs while I watched and learned, then I kept reinforcing what i was taught.

But my Yellow lab is in Rock's blood line  but not from them.

Whistling Wings is by far the most active group of folks who train regularly in a club setting. They usually have a club training day a few times a month.

I will definitely get more info on Rainier Retriever Club.  Whistling Wings sounds good too, but location is not as convenient for me.  Although it does seem that most of the training grounds are all up North.  I did find the training group on here that is getting together, but it's over in the Ephrata area.  I would be interested in a training group if there were a group of people in Pierce County that wanted to get together.

Thanks for all the help and info from everyone.

Rainier doesn't do anything in the south end. There is a club in Vancouver which is newer called Greater Pacific. If you want free help you'll have to drive. Otherwise Paying someone near you for training is the next option.

I don't think Rainier had a training day last year. They put on a competition and two hunt tests. The training days ended after people would show up with a whole bunch of dogs then expect all the people with one dog to throw birds for their truckload.

There are a couple of groups that train regularly at Ft. Lewis. One is Gonias group, I am drawing a blank on the other, but I am sure Paul will know.
