I have heard they are in the area. This is in 328, near Wilson Creek/Reecer Creek.
Zoomed in to see the feet better. I think the ears, blocky face and the feet close the deal.

without a doubt - wolf
(or 98% hybrid) :chuckle:
crap is that like right in town?

wolf
-
Well it ain't Little Red Ridding Hood! :chuckle:

Wolf.

only way to be certain would be to set up a few landmines there and then do dna tests of the scraps afterward. if the dna tests come back positive for wolf, youll have to remove the remaining landmines right away so as to protect these noble creatures that are such valuable assets to our ecosystem

Wilson/Reecer creek is like right under I-90 just outside of E-burg
was it really that close in?
-
They've been in that area for about 5 years (OR LONGER) prior to them discovering them there.

Here is a shot from a different camera.
-
Wow that turned out grainy sizing it to fit.
-
Here is a photo of a coyote from that same camera for size comparison.

Love the snowpack :yike:

Love the snowpack :yike:
It is killing me, no snow to speak of this year. Normally I have to snowmobile in this time of year. I don't know if the lack of snow has the animals on a different pattern, the Taylor bridge fire below us and the Table Mountain fire above us or what? We just seem to have a ton of predators this year.
Here a photo of a cat that I got from this same two week period.

This is up near the National Forest, at about 4000 feet. My stepdad saw one close to the intersection of Reecer Creek Road and Wilson Creek road a couple of years ago. Said it was the biggest dog or coyote he had ever seen. When I mentioned wolf he said it was possible. Now I would say it was definately a wolf back then and now they have moved even closer to town. Not far from my location is tons of livestock. Should be easier picking than deer and elk hopefully. But I am sure this will not help the calf and fawn recruitment this year. Not that the coyote cougar and bear that I have pics of won't be doing their share of damage.

Without doubt a wolf. :bash: Congrats on getting a trail cam pic.
I was up there 10 days calling Coyotes and called in my first Wolf (by himself) that looks very similar, hard to tell from that pic but the one I saw might of had a whiter face. He came running in fast and slowed down about 120 yards out, came in slow the last 40 yards and held up in some brush. I watched him for about 5 minutes, then stood up and he didn't care one bit. Eventually he wandered off into some brush and disappeared. Also heard them howling about an hour before daylight.
There has been several photos of wolves in the valley floor on that side of the valley floating around on emails for a month. We have also found more cougar kills than ever before, so we definitely have a cougar problem, now we have wolves :bash:

yup.wolf. I saw one alone last year Jan 5 by it self .while I snowmobiling just 5 miles east of there. don't need them. >:(

Swear I saw some up in the 328 about 9 years ago. :bash:

Sounds like an aggressive charge to me :mgun2:

Indeed 100% wolf on that one.

It makes for tracking them a pain. I went into first last week looking for the pack, and found a track frozen in the mud, but no idea when it was made. I'm curious to how many animals are in "this pack" This could be the Wenatchee ones, or the Teanaway ones or :dunno:
-
I attended a presentation by one the WDFW predator biologists. He showed maps made of animals with tracking collars. They travel hundreds of miles. Could be a loner out to set up his own pack. He predicted it won't take long to establish packs on this side of the mountains given the pattern they have already established of populating new areas outside Yellowstone. so plan to see more wolves less elk and deer on a game camera near you. the one good thing he said once they are established on the west side they whole state can be delisted. still up to the political hacks at WDFW to create a season for them. The biologist was pretty clear that hunting alone is never going to control the explosive growth of our wolf population. Cool pic thanks for sharing.

:yeah: :yeah: :chuckle:

Holy crap! Someone must not have a deer within 10 miles with all those predators in the neighborhood. :yike: :yike:
-
Its a weird year PM with the lack of snow. The animals are definatley having a different sort of winter.
-
I cant say. I was surrounded by a pack of 14 wolves in Montana packed in 28 miles in the bob and all those wolves looked a lot slimmer or pointed in the snout, with real beauty eyes I was 20 feet from them so I got a good look. Almost looks like a hybrid. but could be one. Hope not

I saw a wolf in 328 the last weekend of the late Archery elk hunt. Right up near Wilson/Reecer also. I couldn't believe what I had seen so I walked over to where the wolf ran over the hill and sure enough it was a wolf track. People have been saying they've seen them in the area for years but I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself. You guys sure are right about too many predators in this area. I've got black bear and cougar on my trail cam and saw a huge Tom the same weekend I saw the wolf. Missed it with my bow at 62 yards. I was and still am sick about it. Would have saved a lot of deer and elk. We need to do something to control these predators. They're getting out of hand. We heard of more cougars being seen and killed this year than any of the past 10 years we've hunted this area.

4000 feet in that area is basically the timber line. The intersection of Reecer and Wilson Cr (Table Mtn) Roads is about 5500'. The wolves are getting mighty close to the ranchers fields and other homes if they're at 4000'. It's been very, very cold in E Burg this last week and we finally have snow on the ground in town as of last night and there's been snow in the 328 for a few weeks now so judging by the date of your photos I'd say it snowed just after your camera got those pics. I wonder if the snow has driven the wolves even further down now. That would be a scary thought considering how low they already were before the snow but it's not that deep so I cant imagine it being to bad for the deer and elk. Also, all the cattle that range over in Coleman and Cooke canyons during the Summer has to attract hungry wolves, which is another dagger to the heart for us.

Never see a hunting season in this liberal arm pit. Even if they do delist this vermin and let out a very limited number of tags the elk and deer herds will have been wiped out way before that happens. :twocents:
-
There's been a young male running from the bottom of reecer over to Coleman across the power line for the last year. Heard last weekend from local cattle rancher that the teanaway pack has been below the Wilson creek substation for the last week or so.
-
I saw wolf tracks above Suneast last spring. I thought maybe someone had a dog loose but there were no people tracks in the snow to be found. Now I am sure it was a wolf. Even found some gray hair in the snow where it rolled around. I wish they'd head about 75 miles west then changes would happen.
-
There has always been a pack up Reecer for about the last 20 years or more that I know of. Just figured they were coyote dog crosses that went wild and fed off of the elk and hunters gut piles. They looked like wolves in all shades of brown, gray and black. vicious looking k-9's that needed to be shot.

Wolf. I think were all going to be seeing more of them if your out in the bush at all.

Definitely wolf
