I saw hammer's post, so I thought I would add.
I bought a benchmark and a green mtn to build 260ai on. I had planned on using the green mountain barrel as a fire forming barrel to build my brass and not burn up my benchmark. I bought it as a cylinder and contoured it to my liking and to fit a stock I had in the pile. I loaded up some match burners and fired a 9 round ladder test..... that was pretty promising. I loaded 5 of each charge and used 1 in the ladder and the final four to shoot for groups. This is the best it did..... And this was the second best. .... All groups were fired at 122yds off the hood on a bipod. I was pleased. Here's the platform. I cerakoted it with the leftovers in a pot. It's screwed onto a trued up 700..... I sure wouldn't mess with that barrel, it shoots right out of the gate. I'm going to give a Green Mtn a try with one of my 6.5 Wildcats, I was thinking the same thing. Using it to form brass and work up loads , then having Benchmark barrel it. If it shoots as well as these two 6.5 Green Mtn's , I'll leave it be. I'm going to get a F54 contour.

I may actually try one of their pre contoured barrels. I was nervous about expectations from a cheap barrel. ....but it's proving me wrong.

Mel has always spoke highly of them. Midway USA sells most Green Mtn F34 and F54 contoured barrels for 92.00. I spoke with Green Mtn yesterday and they said they had 6.5 , 9 twist F54's on hand but they are special runs for Midway and Brownells only and one would have to purchase the barrels through Mid or Brown. Midway didn't show the 6.5, 9T, F54 in stock but Green Mtn said they had them so if I ordered I would get it.

Has anyone heated one up? Does POI change?

I've only personally witnessed a sporter weight barrel shot, it was during the barrel break in. He will probably warm it up sometime tomorrow and we will see.

I put 45 rounds through the one posted. The second best group was shots 35-40. I never let it cool, and I have NEVER cleaned it.
