Title: 45-75
Post by: Eli346 on February 03, 2014, 03:22:48 PM
I've been looking for ammo for a 45-75 and can't seem to find any. It's for a good friend of mine. He doesn't have any shell casings to reload either. Anybody have any suggestions or ideas?

Watch this store site (Old Western Scrounger).  I have bought some of my hard to find ammo from them before.  They currently do not have 45-75 in stock but they did previously.  They'll get more eventually, you just need to monitor the site until they do.

I googled: 45-75 and came up with stores that have it in stock.

Thanks for both replies. I've been checking Midway, Brownells and also have the guy at Cabela's twho stocks ammo looking out for me but I didn't think to try Google. Doh! I'll keep watch on the other site mentioned also.

That's an old caliber.  Probably an old gun, too.  Being as the 45-70 is a rimmed case, if the 45-75 is too. you should be able to fire 45-70 mild rounds in it.  the 45-75 case is probably just a bit longer to hold another 5 grains of black powder.  That's how those old cartridges were designated--by the grains of black powder the case would hold.  in the black powder days, you filled the case to the rim with black powder and pressed the lead bullet into the case and crimped it in.  I would not shoot smokeless powder in an old gun.  The pressures are too great for that old steel, if it is an old gun, and not a modern replica made for modern ammunition.   :twocents:
