So it was late afternoon and the deer were down. I hit the open country in the hopes of glassing one up. Sure enough, I spot this guy literally a half mile away.
I need to be about where the red x is to get some good photos.

I figure out about where a road will take me and plot a course with landmarks then head that direction. Thats where I was headed when I ran into the buck featured in the poached buck thread. This guys twin. After fooling with him, I made it over to the right spot and started my stalk. Soon I was within 20 yards of the doe and about 30 of the buck.

I was wondering what to do...how long to wait. I knew the doe would hear me anytime and blow, and he was basically facing me. Then I heard a buck grunt off to my left. The buck stood up and stretched and headed to his doe.

Then look at who came out of the brush.
The buck mounted her about 5 minutes later while I was headed back to my truck and then he moved on. Got r done, then left.

Thanks you guys VERY MUCH! Should have seen the 185-190 buck we saw today walk bwteen two hunters. By the time I got the scope set up on him for my daughter. SHE GOT TO ENJOY HIM, and then my camera out for some long range stuff, his doe had led him farther away. I knwo for a fact those two unnotched tag fellas would have shot him in a heartbeat. DAMN nice deer. I am pretty sure I am being conservative on that score two. He was all tine. Had a hard time getting within range of anything good today during daylight hours. Now where is that nasty weather?
-
Doug...wow...that lens is paying off now buddy...those are fantastic...
So the 190+ buck...did you even get a crappy pic of him???? By the way..I did'nt see you comment, go look at the "no pisscutter" thread...
-
really nice pictures, I was wondering what kind of camera do you use?
-
Your pictures are amazing! Makes me wish I could not live in the city and enjoy stuff like that more often than I get to.
-
I think I'll start a new thread for the next buck. Maybe just add misc pics to these threads as I go. Especially for those with dial up still or a slow provider, these heavy photo threads drive them nuts.
-
Awesome as always. Hey Bone are you using a Nikon or Canon and what lens is that? Thanks in advance.
-
Thanks Wapiti. I am shooting a Canon 40D with a 400mm lens 2.8
-
Here are a couple more of this fellow I think after he had his doe. I stumbled on him heading out in another direction.
