Bowhunt - New Mexico Elk "UP CLOSE" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwS2qA2gCSw#)

Cool vid. Thanks for taking the time to post. I shot one Roosey bull almost exactly like that only he was coming right at me. It was me or him :)
-
That is awesome. I am applying again for New Mexico!
-
WOW
-
That will get the blood flowing, September can't come soon enough.
-
Bored me. Takes real talent to shoot over the big tire waterhole on the ranch.
-
Did you even watch the video? The elk was called in...not shot over a water hole!
-
Most guys would have choked with a bull that close ....Water Hole ??? Looked pretty fair to me :dunno:

There was a big tire with water in it

And there was calling involved

:yeah: Bulls I have called in the closest I have not closed the deal on. Not sure due to choking- usually it involves brush.
Freaks me out to imagine hunting elk in country free of underbrush like that. Something I've yet to experience.

if that don't get your elk fever going nothing will!
-
That's how all my hunts go. I just push on my hotchie mama a few times and they come running its that easy.

Here in western washington, you toot on your bugle and they just come running.....the hunters I mean...

me and trophy hunt were up ina spot he likes, he was calling elk in all over the place, it wasnt elk season for us, but he bugled in a bull right into the same bush we were hiding in, it was awesome, you could see right up his nostrils, what a rush it was, it was probably one of the coolest scouting trips i have ever been on

That was close. Primos has a few that are super close like that.
-
I have shot a bull at two feet ! fricken gets your heart going for sure !
-
I have had bulls at 3 and 4 yards. If they are movin slow, it is a tough thing to seal the deal. Lots of fun though.
-
I have to be honest (with you, and with myself); had I been the hunter in that situation--and not just because I am right-handed--I would either have not been able to shoot (too sudden...), or have shot the bull in the near fore shoulder. I don't think I would have done very well at all.
What a video!

X2 !!
Nothing like peering through the salmonberry/Vine Maple and seeing the eye and nostril..
Or getting caught w/o cover when they come in, nothing to do but freeze and pray...

kinda hard for me to get excited about high fence hunts

I'm not sure why people think this is a 'High fence' or ranch. Just because there was a large tractor tire for a makeshift water hole doesn't make it ranch. I've seen man-made water holes on State, Federal, BLM, and open to public, privately own, Forest land. Most are built by cattle ranchers leasing the property.

Regardless of where it was, I thought the fact that the guy just about got run over by the elk was the cool part. I hope hope to experience some up close encounters like some of you have talked about.

NOT a high fence hunt....that is a local hunt and the guys in it are members of this forum.
