I have never done any competitive shooting, but $90 seems kinda steep even with a cash payout (referencing my experience with racing motorcycles...so, it's an Apples to oranges comparison)

That sounds like a whole bunch of fun!

$90 doesn't seem unreasonable to me; bicycle races, marathons, and other similar events also cost quite a bit to stage, and it is only fair to have the user (participant) pay.

Best of luck.  I don't own the necessary equipment, otherwise I would seriously consider such a day at the run & gun range.

Maybe some of the local guys will come out of the hills to prove their metal, so to speak?

Precision rifle with dope to 950 yards and dope for  1760 yards. Rifle may be bolt or semi, but NO magnums and a speed limit of 3150FPS.

so, quick question.

What NON-Magnum Calibre can go a mile and stay inder 3150 at the muzzle???

Would need a pill with a true 0.73 G1 BC...

I would love to own such an animal

The magnums are a little hard on the target is all, actually more the fastners and stands.  Not many matches allow them anymore.

Not sure what you are shooting, but my 6mm with a 105 Hybrid at 3150 does fine at 1750yds.  Still supersonic to a little over 1800yds.  Still has just enough elevation in the scope as well.

I would be all over this but the "precision rifle" part might be hard to come up with.   :dunno:

I pull the chute at 1200

if I went, I would be running my 270 winny with the 165 Matrix pills at 2850.

I have only taken it to 1400yards so far...lets just say, I have some practice to do!!

To answer a few of the questions,
1- pistol, 1- carbine and 1-precision rifle = 3, three gun match.
After over head and ~ 18 paying participants, as a few will get comped, the Gun Club will break even. And that's only because I'm providing 95% of the steel.
Spectators are fine, there will be some vantage points for the run & gun. Any spectators must check in with me 3-4 days before the match.
Travis answered the speed limit/ magnum questions.
You don't need to be super sonic to 1760 ( 1mile), you just have to have a bullet that drops back into subsonic with out issues. There are several that will, and some that won't.
There is only the one target @ 1760, and it won't make or break you. You need to have a well rounded precision rifle set up.
Hope to see you all there!
